Goodbye fbalpha, welcome fbneo

Thanks - I am in the process of adding lr-fbalpha2018 in RetroPie. Will the location of "metadata/hiscore.dat" change? - eg if someone wants both cores installed I'm thinking how to handling the copying of this.
Also the name/key for core options ? Will that change so there are not conflicts ?
are you planning to change the 2018 libretro core name from fbalpha_libretro.so to fbalpha2018_libretro.so ?

@barbudreadmon - I did a thank you reply and saying I would update then edited my post with questions. Thought I should reply in case you look at the email notifications rather than the forum. Thanks as always for your hard work on fbalpha. :-)

@BuZz well, to be honest i didn't think too much about fbalpha2018, i just renamed the repo because it was in the way. And with difference of speed already being marginal between 2012 and current, i was also considering the option to just delete the "fbalpha2018" repo to avoid more fbalpha confusion. So either send me a PR to rename the fbalpha stuff to fbalpha2018 in makes/paths/options, or don't add a script to build it.

@barbudreadmon regarding 2018, looking at the mainline repo it looks like it has the commit history for older versions of fbalpha, but not the libretro fork (at least, not until recently?). so i guess that means the only way to build older versions of lr-fbalpha is via your 2018 repo.
that said, personally i would probably just delete/hide the 2018 repo as IMO there's little reason to go back to older versions for fbalpha. the only speed regression i've heard of is the cps3 bug here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/19646/retroarch-1-7-5-causing-fps-drops-for-cps-3-games - but i would guess that's something that could be fixed.
just my opinion! i guess it's up to retropie to use it or not.

Is this new release already available thru "update from source" in Retropie setup ?
-
@barbudreadmon My only thinking was that in the future it might be useful to keep as fbalpha performance may change - in the same way there are various libretro MAME cores.
I can look into a PR as time allows. Thanks.

@barbudreadmon iq_132 recently added Atari "Arcade Classics" prototype (super centipede/missile command II). Is there trackball support in .44 ?
-
@UDb23 I have that package and the trackball I have works fine.
-
@IanDaemon sweet. thanks!
Finishing my custom trackball & spinner control panel; will check the game asap. -
Hi!
How i can downgrade FBA to 02.97.43? -
@wmarcio you'll have to manually clone and build https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha2018
@barbudreadmon said in New FB Alpha libretro (pre-v0.2.97.44):
it's up to you to either not update fbalpha or keep your romset up-to-date
Next time, follow the instructions and don't update, it'll save you a lot of trouble if you don't want to bother updating your romsets.
-
If I update Retropie does my FBA emulator get upgraded too or do emulators have to get updated specifically/intentionally?

You can do either. You can update them together or separately. The RetroPie menus give you both options.

Hi, thanks for answering.
Would it be too much to ask, or could you teach me this procedure?
I do not know anything about linux ...
thank you very much. -
@wmarcio I would recommend to stick with the latest version and fix your romsets instead (using the dat file i provide at https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/blob/master/dats/FB Alpha v0.2.97.44 (ClrMame Pro XML).dat and a tutorial about clrmamepro), doing otherwise would be a lot more complex and there are most likely specific steps for retropie which i'm unaware of.

Btw, i'll mention it since it has been a request for a long time, midway W unit games (mortal kombat 3, rampage world tour, ...) are now available in fbalpha, and midway T unit (mortal kombat 1 & 2, ...) should be available in the next few days. Can't tell you how well they perform on rpi3 (my sd card died a few weeks ago and i didn't find the time to reinstall something on a new sd card), but on my x86 computers they work perfectly. Support for a lot of 80s american cabinet from atari and williams was also added some time ago.
-
mk1 & 2 are now supported in public releases, they run fine on my rpi3, mk3 seems to be a bit too much for my rpi3 atm.
On a sidenote, don't use frameskipping with midway games atm, it's causing unexpected rendering issues, currently trying to figure out what's causing this. -
@barbudreadmon Will we get a .44 final release for Xmas ? ;-)
-
@UDb23 Don't ask for an ETA, things will be ready when they'll be ready, and most people are busy in december. I don't think there will be an official release as long as the midway drivers aren't perfect (or almost), and i think there is still quite some work to do on them.

Hi
The current FB Alpha libretro that we get from binary source in retropie-setup 4.4 (updated) is this new pre-v0.2.97.44? I am asking because according to the changelog some new games have been added, like Mortal Kombat. I have a verified rom set (verified against 0.2.97.44 dat file) but it won't load at all
