MAME ROM LAUNCH ISSUE
-
Hey Guys,
Rather new to the RetroPi but loving it thus far. Issue I am having that I have not seein the past is when loading a specific ROM it will look like it is starting to launch and then just goes back to the main menu. I tested the ROM in question on a Win install of MAME and the rom worked fine.
Pointers? I tried loading differet mame emulators for the ROM with no luck as well.

You're doing it backwards. You need the correct romset for the mame emulator you're using, not randomly trying different emulators hoping it will work. Give the docs another read through and it will make more sense

Since it was a MAME Rom, I had been trying the emulators provided for the MAME ROM set I have that were built in RetroPi packages. Did not try once such as NES, etc. I have tried other MAME based ROMS such a Burger Time, Etc without issue. The one I am looking at is Missile Command which is a MAME ROM. I am sorry but I do not understand what I am missing here. I have tried all 3 version of the ROM without luck. Perhaps you could point me in a more specific direction?

You need to read this link and the one posted above. It's all laid out.

@dankcushions So I see with the Pi 3 that I have that I would need Set 1 for MC for this to work correctly? And what is the difference between a set 1 and set 2? Revision of the original ROM?

huh? there's nothing in the links to say use set 1 vs set 2

@Azurden I believe you are confusing various uses of the word 'set' and incorrectly equating them. You need ROMs that match your emulator's needs. The easiest way to deal with this is to get yourself a complete collection (a rom set) of MAME 0.78 roms. Individual games are comprised of rom sets as well. Different versions of a game will have different roms comprising them. Missile Command set 1 and set 2 are two different hardware versions of Missile Command.
Get yourself a full collection mame 0.78, copy the games you want over to the roms/arcade folder on your pi, and then use lr-mame2003 as your emulator on the Pi.
