@leitmotiv The file is /dev/shm/runcommand.log, somehow I've posted the path wrong the first time.

@leitmotiv You didn't enable verbose logging. From the looks of it, the ROM file might be corrupted or incomplete. Enable verbose logging from the Runcommand launch menu and you'll get a more detailed log file.

@mitu I'm confused. That link you sent for enabling verbose logging shows the option to enable it. I selected to Launch the rom with Verbose Logging. Is that not how it's done?

@leitmotiv Yes, that's the method and it looks like the verbose flag was added. The problem is that your RetroArch program is corrupted:

              /opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh: line 1009: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch: Permission denied

Try to re-install it from the RetroPie setup script, from the main packages section.

@mitu all right, cautiously will... anything I can do to save controller remaps files and my setup? I've been pumping tons of hours into this thing trying to get it all set up and was getting close to being done. I would hate to spend another 40 hours+ redoing all the work I've done.

                Or am I safe?

@leitmotiv Backup the cfg files you edited through MAME's input menu - but it seems you already did that. Re-installing RetroArch should not overwrite those settings though.

@mitu okay, well I actually only backed up MAME2003. So I should save the cfg files for FBA and all the different MAMEs, mostly 2003 and 2010 controls. After that I will uninstall retroarch and reinstall it. Update is a no go, yeah?

Why ? You can just as well run the update and it will re-install the packages with the latest versions available.

@mitu Ok, if there is an update available I presume. Is there a file that saves which emulator core I am using for each of these FBA/MAME roms? Or will that be fine?

There is one, but that's a configuration file that's not going to be overwritten. How did you install the RetroPie image in the first place ?

@mitu oh man, I didn't think I would be talking about this issue from the one I started. Thank you for your patience.

I believe I dumped the install files on the SD card and on first boot it went through the process of setting everything up, something like that anyway. I followed what the website said to do.

@mitu well, I presume the uninstall retroarch is in the Retropie/Retroarch menu and when I select that, it doesn't load...

@leitmotiv I think you sd card may be damaged.

@mitu Pretty sure I figured the issue out. It's the Drastic emulator for NDS which is when all of this started happening. Drastic causes things to hang up. Going to uninstall it and it should be back to normal.

Perhaps I will make a new thread to discuss my original question, if it is still there after the removal of Drastic. So disappointed that Drastic is causing this much of a problem.

@leitmotiv This is a known problem with Drastic - but there's an updated version that can fix that. See this topic.

@mitu Thanks for the link. I checked it out, but it doesn't appear to fix the main problem of disrupting retropie. It only fixes games with mic issues, if I understand it correctly.

This was the issue I was having: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10110/drastic-nds-emulator-breaks-run-command-emulator-configuration-prompt-in-retropie4-2/30

Though in my case, it seems to have disabled the retropie setup menu as well... even after I uninstalled it. I switched to my backup SD card and so far no problems with the retropie setup menu, although, I still can't get other systems to boot after I've launched a NDS game.
