Systems on Pi Zero
-
Hi! I'm thinking about buying a GPI Retroflag Case, but I'm not sure about Pi Zero performances.
I'd like to play all the vintage handheld consoles: GB, GBC, GBA, Atary Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color and Gamegear. Are all these system fully playable? I'm worried especially about GBA games
-
@Chuck_B all of those systems should work well minus GBA. You'll need to use the less accurate lr-gpsp for better performance. Though from what I understand about 20% of the GBA library will still be too slow to be playable.
-
@quicksilver is possible to find a list of the not full playable GBA games?
-
@Chuck_B gpsp is not a bad emulator and runs fine for the most popular games, albeit with a few bug that don’t effect gameplay usually. It’s usually minor graphic issues. I use it on my pi zero with no problem. I’m sure you’ll be happy with GBA performance, while not perfect, is fine.
-
@lostless can you please tell exactly which games you are able to play?
-
@Chuck_B coming from a real PSP, which is where gpsp came from, I was able to run most games I threw at it with minor slowdowns on some games. The pi version has the exact same bugs, but runs better. As I said, the only thing i notice are small graphical bugs in some games. Most you won’t even realize are there unless you’ve played the original or a better emulator. Like the color of the level introduction in yoshis island . It’s supposed to be black, but it renders the sky color of the level instead. Or in Zelda minish cap, where links sprite just disappears when going through certain doors. Or a white flash when going to the map in castlevania, COM. Doesn’t effect the gameplay. I’m sure most titles you want to run will be just fine.
-
@lostless you talk about the standalone version of gpsp or the libretro one?
-
@Chuck_B Libretro.
-
I'll try to check online to find some gameplay video... I'm a pretty demanding gamer :)
-
@Chuck_B lol. There is a tad bit of slowdown, but nothing detrimental.
