Megadrive/Genesis Button Mapping

Hi Guys,

Not the newest to Retropie but am definitely rusty.
The last controller I have to map is Genesis/Megadrive.

Looks like the config is in opt/retropie/configs/megadrive/retroarch.cfg but I can't actually find where any of the bindings are. This is looking like the global config for retroarch and I'm confused on what to edit.
I just finished the n64 config and it had it's own file, which was nice.

I should mention that I'm using a couple usb n64 controllers which should work nicely for the 6 button genesis layout; which I've already enabled.

This is my final configuration for this beauty before I cut and backup the image, so any help is greatly appreciated.

The MD/Genesis emulators are Libretro (RetroArch) emulators, so if you configured the controller in Emulationstation - on 1st boot - then a configuration has been already created for it. If you wish to customize it, the best way would be through Core input remapping.
The bindings - created by said configuration - are in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads, in a .cfg file named after your controller.

Thank you for the reply.
The problem is, I don't wish to modify the layout that I'm using to control ES, which is the initial setup config.
I used the initial set up as an opportunity to configure the snes controller.

You don't need to re-map your controls in ES - or any other emulator - the Core remapping applies only to the MD/Genesis system, basically a re-arrangement of the inputs according to your needs, applied in RetroArch only for that specific emulator.

@respite Who said anything about editing ? Did you read the link in my first reply ? The Core input remapping can be done from the RGUI menus.

@mitu I certainly did read your link. Did you read my question where I asked where I could edit it in the configuration?
I don't like the GUI for this part of the configuration. It's cluttered and I'm having difficulty navigating it while it horizontally scrolls.
This is why I asked where I could make the config edit.

As a long-time Linux user I can absolutely understand why someone would prefer editing config files over any GUI. ;) (Just wanted to take up the cudgels for this kind of preference. Please continue.)

@respite If you don't like the GUI, then on the same page there's an explanation on how to override the controls for a certain system - MD/Genesis in your case - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#example-per-system-control-override-retroarchcfg. The file you need to edit is the retroarch.cfg in your /opt/retropie/configs/megadrive folder.
