Select button does not work in links awakening gameboy color

@lesk You should be able to save the new configuration as an override for that game only. Perhaps try changing it to L3 or R3? Those buttons arent used at all for that game.

@quicksilver
Okay that's pretty neat! Sadly I don'y have the L3 or R3 on these.
It's looks just like a original SNES controller. So it has d-pad, select, start. B, A, X, Y buttons and the left and right shoulder button ^^
It makes it a bit tricky.It looks like this one. But different colors and it says Bluetooth instead of 2.4g wireless. But its 8bitdo ^^

@lesk This is strange. I was just re-playing this game over the weekend (new link's awakening coming out soon!!!!) and had no issues with the select button.
Im using an 8bitdo SN30pro and my select button is the hotkey on my pi. Is there perhaps a turbo mode you might have enabled on this within retroarch or perhaps the controller? I think you can turbo select in retroarch anyway...
The only thing i noticed you cant do with select being your hotkey is save the game normally as this requires you push start+select+a+b at once though you can always save state it as a workaround.
-
@Parabolaralus hmm if it works for you then I'm not quite sure what the OP's issue might be then.
-
@quicksilver Nevermind...it had been so long since I played this on real hardware I didn't realize what the issue was.
All emulator cores, new install done over the weekend, no overrides for any of these cores and this menu doesn't come up properly as he described. I thought he was talking about something else initially as I have part of the lower end of the screen cut off and missed it...
You hit start then HOLD select to bring up hearts as described where it flashes briefly almost as if turbo mode IS on on the select button, but it's not.
So I remapped my controls to where the hotkey button is something else (home) and this menu comes up perfectly. So the hotkey button does kind of do a rapid fire on select, but only for like a second or two because the menu doesn't just pop up like a possessed jack in the box.
That menu in the game is so useless though it's not even funny...
-
@lesk perhaps remap hotkey to "Y"? I dont think that button is used for this game, correct?
-
Yeah the new Links Awakening, can't wait!! ^^
Yeah same thing for me. It flashes by real quick.@quicksilver
That's true! I could change it to "Y". I tried doing this. I loaded up the game and hit hotkey + X to start the retroarch menu.
I could only find where to change SELECT, START, B and A buttons. Not where I could change the hotkey =/ -
@lesk
i don’t know if you found an answer but i had the same problem and this thread solved it. bring up the menu and move over to settings, go down input>hotkey binds>hotkeys. select that then just press the new button you wish to be the hotkey and problem solved. -

You can look up anything on any issue and find info whether it be good or bad....assuming of course someone ran into the same problem.
It's also why forums suck. I just read this after completely forgetting about this remake and realized my backlog/freetime/moneys do not get along.
