Help for a Slowpoke on 4.5 Update, ALSO, SLD and I need help.

Where do I begin. SLD = Specific Learning Disability (Meaning = Be patient I WILL LEARN, just at very slow, and questioing/repeat pattern pace) That is all.
Let's Begin...
I have a 4.3 Retropie... latest when it was out. I got this as a gift from a friend of relative etc who recommened I go here in case of emergency... This is that time. SO Here we are.
Also, I didn't have my wifi up and running when I did this.... AT FIRST. Here we go.I updated the Retro Script.... thinking it WAS the correct idea. I don't think it was... It says it updated. But is it really? I dunno. (yes I have pics I will show you)
Thinking I was okay.. i tried updating.... it didn't work andI got different errors. I thought O-o WHAT am I doing wrong. Then I realized IF I come here I could LEARN THINGS YES!!.....But I sincerely tried, and was sadly confused by computer talk....that is bad, I don't speak tech very well at all my brain is literally set to SLOW POKE. But still I TRIED and did what I could to make the most of it.
REALIZING WIFI, I got close....but no.
Not knowing WHAT was wrong. I took photos. Please help this Slowpoke, I don't know what I am doing, nor have a clue on how to do it. ;w; HELP ME.Here are the pics, had to crop them so they'd fit here. Some tech I am good, THIS I do need assistance. Help me please understand what I am doing wrong.
Thank you for your patience to this new person.

Do you have a specific issue/problem ? I see you're updated the RetroPie-Setup script and you have the latest RetroPie version (4.5.8). Your system is based on an older version of Raspbian Linux (the OS that RetroPie uses underneath), which is no longer supported (both by RetroPie and Raspbian), so the 2nd picture message is quite clear about that.
If you're referring to the error in the first picture, that looks like a corrupted file - which might indicate a damaged or corrupted sd-card.

WHen you say SD Card you mean the little one IN the BOX??? or the little THUMB Drive USB Fflash kind of thing...??? ONe or the other I can get or replace which is good. And if THAT is all.... I am somewhere to fall back on O_O
I have a good feeling its the SD Card in the Box. IF that is the case. What do you do? Copy & replace or reinstall all together?
Same thing with the USB, same question. COPY & Paste??? OR Reinstall...though I think the USB would be easier all together. -
You haven't said what is your actual problem ? Is the system not working anymore ? Do you get errors when running a game ?
WHen you say SD Card you mean the little one IN the BOX?
Most likely yes, the USB drive usually just holds the games and the system is on the sd-card.

Yes the games work, all but GBA because I let Final Fantasy Dawn o-Souls play and O_O THE LAG and Music was just awful.
When I tried updating it was giving me those problems, with or without the wifi.
It wasn't till I realized. HEY Wifi might be the situation. I tried acessing it and tried the UPDATE option instead of BAsic INstall. SO I'm basically confused. What did I do? And what can I do now?
I want to know what I am doing wrong. That message that says you should 4.4 update. HOW is that achieved? UPdate or Basic INstall
And if so on either, what proper steps are done for 1 or the other.
Please bear in mind O_O My brain is grasping at this very slowly and I want to make sure I get this right. If it sounds like gibberish or code, I am sorry, I am just really confused and lost.

@Faye said in Help for a Slowpoke on 4.5 Update, ALSO, SLD and I need help.:
I want to know what I am doing wrong. That message that says you should 4.4 update. HOW is that achieved? UPdate or Basic INstall
And if so on either, what proper steps are done for 1 or the other. Please add more details about how your system is set-up, as asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Upgrading can be performed by saving your games and configurations, then installing a new version with the latest RetroPie image from retropie.org.uk/download. But, since you mentioned an USB, your system might be configured differently, so a little conext is necessary.

ALRIGHT, I fixed SOME of the problem with some gaming issues. But I am curious about something else. I did some updates a few days ago (yes with the wifi this time) everything looks OKAY.
But this keeps popping up... I am not sure if I did the wrong format or missed something via update. Tell me what you see and point/guide me in the right direction if you can.
This picture Keeps saying about an update, what or how I am unsure of or lack the knowledge of how to install/update without probably doing it harm (Everything still plays which is good) But even so, adding anything new is tricky if not able to at all for one reason or another (I'll take a pic next time around)
But here's the one, I thought I DID install RetroPie 4.4....early on but it looks like I might not have, or something is missing.... Is it???
And here is this photo.... It says 4.5.8 ...?
I am generally confused... It's conflicting and confusing me. I apprently DID miss a step. I don't know which. But I will admit when I did try updating, the script was updated FIRST, and here we are with a lot of confusion as you can see.
As you can see, I don't know what to do, I obviosuly don't know the proper steps in updating this. EVEN WITH a guide....accidents like this has now happened.
Can I play the games I have, yes. Can I add, I tried & either the wifi wasn't there or it didn't click. If anyone can help out I would appreciate it. But be mindful it takes me a bit to comprehend some of this tech. It's still pretty new to me, but I am willing to learn. Thanks from the Slowpoke!!

The second screen is your current setup. You have installed version 4.5.8 and you are running it on the Jessie operating system.
The first screen pops up because you aren't supposed to do that. It's telling you very clearly that you are not supposed to run versions 4.4 and higher (yours is 4.5.8) on Jessie. You need to upgrade the OS to Stretch.
What you DON'T want to do is try to upgrade your current Jessie to Stretch. The first screen is telling you quite clearly that you need to rebuild from a fresh image.

since you say you got this is a gift, i'm afraid we can't support you; third party installations break our forum rules: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
what you can do, is start from scratch using your existing hardware: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/ - this is the solution to your jessie error above, also. that link's instructions are as simple as we can make it.
-
@Faye alright you are using Raspbian/ Debian Jessie. Jessie is the older version as everyone stated. You want to Stretch and that will mean you need to start from scratch with new image. That is no problem at all and good way to learn :) .
BEFORE you start with fresh image i'd highly suggest you copy to your computer the roms, bios, configs folders connecting through your computers network. Now you said wifi isn't connected?
This video below by ETA Prime will walk you through the whole setup of a fresh install of RetroPie. But skip to 6:13 mark in the video there he shows how to setup wifi on the Pi.
Setup your wifi when done back out to the selection screen click '' show my ip '' write down the ip address. And now go to your computer and go to file explorer. Find and click network and give it few secs to show up '' RETROPIE '' .
Now if you don't see RETROPIE when you click network this is where the ip address comes into play. At 7:31 of the video where he puts RETROPIE in you replace that with your ip address you grabbed from the Pi.
Click Retropie and now copy to your computer roms, bios, configs folders.
Once you have copied the folders i asked you to copy from the Retropie image you are using now.
You will now have to get erase the RetroPie image you have now in order to install the new RetroPie image. Follow this video on how to do so.
After you have erased your micro sd card you will need to download a image here https://retropie.org.uk/download/.
Now watch that first video from start to finish and everything should be good.
Sorry if this makes no sense. I'm just trying to help.
