Adding new ROM disables sound and messes up framerate

So the ROM itself isn't doing it...necessarily. The CONFIG is doing it. I was going to suggest it might be a BIOS for the ROM, but it's a CONFIG for the ROM. Which ROM?
Can you move the ROM to the Arcade folder and get the same results?

This message appears when you specifically added a game/core override yourself, did you do that yourself or the message just suddenly appeared afterwards ?
All was fine until I added a rom in to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro and when I reboot there is no sound in any games and the frame rates are wrong (too fast) .
Copying one ROM will not break existing configurations. Are you using an official image or a 3rd party image ? Add more details about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@IanDaemon Sorry for my slow reply. I thought I had set my notifications on to email me when I got a reply but that didn't work :-(
The ROM is phoenix.zip (Phoenix Amstar).
If I put this in:
/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade
it loads ok from the "Arcade Classics" menu but there is no sound. Also I can't get the joystick to work and I can't configure then using the TAB key menu 'Input (this game)' option. It just seems to ignore any of the joystick/switch/keyboard presses when I try and change the defaults. Default keys seem to work.
When I load the "MAME" menu again, there is no sound on the games and frame rate is messed up.

I just added phoenix.zip to folder and then themessage appeared afterwards.

Not sure how I can get these details. It's an arcade cabinet I bought from a third party and the image is what it came with. I can try and find out please you can you advise?

@Thorr69 So perhaps I should just install a default retropie then and see if that helps. It's not much good if I can't add roms :-(

@bbloke You can add ROMs to a RetroPie installation, otherwise what would be the point of a retro-gaming system that cannot play games ?

@mitu Yes I know :-) I have had a basic Windows Mame install for ages and it all worked fine and could add games etc
I don't get why this screws up. After some digging I found the image I have is
deleted.The blurb says:

Maybe it's so locked down you can't add anything to it? Any thoughts?

Delete that link ASAP. It is completely against the forum rules to post a link to a source containing ROMS.
And please stop asking for advice and support about a 3rd party image.
