Nintendo roms only load to a black screen

Please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
What emulator are you using ? What kind of display/resolution are you using ? -

OK, can you give more details about what emulator are you using or which game are you trying to run ? Nintendo has a bunch of systems available in RetroPie - Nes, Famicom, Gameboy, SNES.
-
Are you sure the games are just landing on a black screen and not just taking forever?
I'm having an issue where the game sits on the screen for about 90 seconds before it finally starts to load.
Trying to figure it out myself. -
@mitu Ugh, sorry Mitu.
Snes.The best guess i have is that maybe my usb dualshock ps3 controller is dropping me below voltage.
Everything else boots up fine except games.Seems kind of strange not to be able to hook a controller up and play.
I added a couple hundred roms in at once, none of them will work.plugging in a usb hub, which is then connected to my pi, which is also plugged into the wall seems a bit extra and messy.

Do you get the under-voltage flash on your screen ?

Seems kind of strange not to be able to hook a controller up and play.Yes, but this is something particular to your installation - otherwise we'd get tons of complaints for such behavior.
Did you change/choose the video resolution from the Runcommand launch menu ? What resolution/display are you using ?
-
@mitu
I am using my 1440p gaming monitor.
I did not change my resolution, no. -
A Raspberry Pi 3B tops out at 1080p, can't do 1440p. Try changing the resolution from the Runcommand launch menu to 720p/1080p and see if it makes a difference.
Alternatively, force 1080p using theraspi-config
utility in the RetroPie system, the resolution is in the advanced settings section. -
@mitu
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it at both 1080p and 720p at 60hz and nothing.
when i select the game from the menu it goes to a black screen. Little yellow message pops up saying my usb controller is detected and then nothing.
I can press start+select to go back to the menu but that is it. -
The message about the controller being detected / configured means that RetroArch starts ok. Can you try and enable verbose logging from the Runcommand launch menu when running the game, then exit the game and copy the
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
file over. Post it's contents on pastebin.com to take a look at what might be the error.
You'll probably need to enable SSH and use WinSCP to copy that file, since it's not available via file shares.
