Cascade of issues with my new arcade built
-
Hi Forum,
I finished building my first Arcade cabinet, a nice experience, but I am completely stuck now on software issues. Each time I am looking to solve a problem a new issue pops up. I am desperate and need some help.
I am using a Pi4. I have two SD cards, one with Lakka and one with Retropie. My preference goes to the Retropie setup. I am using the Damaso Pi4 "Nostalgia" 128GB Retropie image. It's really nicely made and roms are good.
Now the issues. I started off with the classic Xin Mo recognition problem for my arcade controls (issue 1). While looking for a solution, I noticed that I don't get access to the SSH command line (issue 2). It keeps on saying access denied when I enter the "raspberry" password ( I looked into the sshd_config file and the "Permitrootlogin yes" line is there). Not a big issue but it hampers problem solving for the other issues.
Now, the most urgent issue is that suddenly Emulation station keeps crashing (issue 3). It starts with the screen going black for 2 seconds every minute or so, with an increasing frequency till I get an error message Emulation station crash. I didn't edit any core files, I just created the new quirk file for my controllers as suggested here.
Thanks for your help,
Tim

We don't support 3rd party images - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
As also noted in the aforementioned link, the support for PI4 is ongoing, so some things might not fully work or have bugs - if you don't have any experience with Raspbian/RetroPie, then wait for an official release. That being said, you can try the Manual installation using a Raspbian Lite image for PI4 support if you feel comfortable with a beta version of RetroPie. -
Thanks Mitu. Noted for the 3rd party images, but I my questions are more Retropie in general I think.
Btw, edit, I think I solved the emulation station crash issue. The USB C power cable on my Pi4 loosens really quick. The slightest move of the Raspberry often shuts it down. My guess is the connector was a little loose and the power flow was unstable. I will have to tape the connector or something. It really is annoying.
But, for the Xin Mo issue, I am still stuck. I found the cmdline file in the on board file explorer and added the usbhid.quirks=0x16c0:0x05e1:0x040 line (I checked the vendor and product ID, those specs are correct for my product). I also tried the second solution outlined here and created a kernel module file, but it doesn't work either. The two controllers connected to the Xin Mo module are still recognised as one by Retropie.

I understand; start with the base RetroPie installation and if you still get those errors, come back and post in this topic.
