Double Dragon (MAME)
-
Hello,
I have a questions regarding Double Dragon for MAME. I can't seem to get it to load. I've tried every variant (USA, World, Japan etc..) and haven't had one version load. It'll bring up "Launching ddragon..." then bring me back to the list of games.
I've tried it under "mame-libretro", "mame-mame4all" and "fba".
Does anyone know what it is I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

@iamoasis i recommend to read the sticky "how to use Mame with Retropie" two places above your thread 😉

it's in the other section though:), but yeah it's another "i didn't bother reading the arcade documentation so it doesn't work" issue -

You need the right rom. Arcade games are not like other emulator roms. You need the right rom set that matches to the MAME/FBNeo version you plan on using. Finding a random roms on the internet is going to lead to frustrations, as you have no idea what version of MAME those ROMs are for. You may get lucky sometimes, because roms don't always change between versions, but its not a good way to get working roms. A good example is capcom CPS2 roms. In older versions of MAME, the decryption key was built into the emulator. With a recent update to MAME and FBneo, the decryption key was no longer there and had to be in the rom now. If i used older versions of roms, they will not work on the newer versions of MAME. Small changes can happen in roms and more accurate dumps come along, so new roms must be used.

Ahem, I moved the topic after the reply (initially it was in the category @sirhenrythe5th mentioned).
@iamoasis The guide @sirhenrythe5th mentioned is https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2859/ and there's a section devoted to Arcade games in the Docs.

@barbudreadmon My apologies. I'm going to read it and attempt to resolve the issue. Thanks for everyone assisting me.

If you still have problems/question once you've went through the guides, feel free to add to this topic.

@mitu I went through the Wiki and located some spreadsheets that show games that have been tested on different emulators. I found my answer there.
Thank you Mitu.

Some entries in those spreadsheets are wrong though, because some of the testers didn't follow the "pick an emulator then pick the right romsets for that emulator" rule.
