I posted on a previous topic that a game that I used to play in the 90s on an arcade machine that we had in our local pub. But I didnt get to the point of what I was originally going to post as RetroPie locked up and I needed help fixing the result of the crash.

Im desperately trying to play this again, so thought id read up about it first in the 'docs' section. I have a Raspberry Pi 3, so looked up what MAME emulator is best for me and saw it was 'lr-mame2003'. Looking at the compatibility list, it shows untested for Raspberry Pi 3 but a note in the BIOS column says NEOGEO. also says sound lags whilst putting (which I dont mind), but also works on MAME2003 Plus.

Regarding this NEOGEO do I need to do anything such as downloading anything else? I dont particularly want to try running it again until ive done what I can to make sure nothing crashes again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What game are you trying to run? I can give it a shot. I use FBNeo for neo geo games because it runs fine on a pi 3. You will need a proper version of the rom for the MAME/FBNeo version you plan on using and a Neogeo.zip bios file in the roms folder for MAME 2003 or the bios folder for FBNeo. The bios needs to be the right version for the emulator you are using, but I donโ€™t think there has been much changes for years.

@vasquez109 Works great using FBNeo. You probably have the wrong rom set.

so, you understand that you need the correct romset collection for your emulator, then? do you have the full romset collection for lr-mame2003? if you have that, and have transferred it across, and then launch the game, it will work.

I also prefer FB-Neo for NeoGeo, but however: Turfmasters is the greatest Arcade Golf Game of all time imo! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Ž

I had major problems getting neogeo games to work within my retropie set up but eventually found (as detailed above) that the game roms and the neogeo.zip rom need to match the requirement for the emulator you're using (I use lr-fbneo and with a quick web search managed to find the correct game and rom sets for it to work)

Ive just got the neogeo.zip and got it working. Think it was that what was causing it. Many thanks!

NeoGeo is one of the few systems where FBNeo has an edge even against current MAME (let alone a 17 years old version of MAME), so yeah, i recommend it.
