@dankcushions I reconfigured it, but my N64 controller does not have a "y" button. What do you want me to do?

@Unknown this is why it's so important to fill out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first :)

in your case, you will have to manually reconfigure the config file. the file you need to edit is /opt/retropie/configs/n64/InputAutoCfg.ini and an example is on the docs page: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Nintendo-64#example-inputautocfgini

you'll want to amend the file to be a 1-1 mapping between your n64 controller's buttons, and the emulator's buttons. you can find the button numbers in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/yourcontrollername.cfg

@dankcushions said in Super Mario n64 problem:

@Unknown you can see the mapping here: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/

it depends on what core you're using. eg for mupenp64plus-GLideN64, Y is B (punch/grab).

I tried what you said here but now the start buttton does not work in N64, It does work in emulationstation though.

@Unknown we need more information to assist you. rather than saying you can't do something, show us a screenshot of what you're trying to do. although i would recommend using SFTP: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms#sftp - i have no experience with sd card adapters - your OS might not be able to see this hidden folder without configuration.

@Unknown Copy/Paste the image on the text edit form, or just drag-and-drop it to the same area.

By the way scrot is a command to take a screenshot.

Which one if the controllers are you using in-game ? Post the config for that controller - open the .cfg file and post its contents.

                                  @mitu @dankcushions I ran the command:

sudo nano /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/'DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick .cfg'

But all I got was an empty file, can you give me the correct terminal command?

You have a file browser on your desktop, use it to open the file with text editor available in Raspbian (I think it's leafpad).
Which one of the controllers is used for N64 games ? You haven't given any of the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@mitu I tried it out,but file browser can't open that folder. I'm using the Dragonrise controller which looks exactly like a N64.

@mitu The only thing that seems to be able to open that folder is the terminal.

@Unknown You should be able to open the folder from both the terminal and the file browser. Make sure you are not mis-typing the folder name (/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads) and that the folder permissions are correct.

If the controller works in other systems which use RetroArch (Genesis, NES), then the .cfg file should not be empty, otherwise the controller would not be recognized.

As a general advice, don't use sudo unless really needed, editing the configuration files in /opt/retropie/configs do not need sudo, since the files are owned by the pi user.

                                          Also - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

So I'm trying to get in through file manager, but when I click on the "retroarch-joypads" file, nothing happens. I checked the permissions and they are enabled for all users.
I 'm still trying to use "nano", but I have not made any progress on that.
If you can help me that would be great, if not I'll let you know when I figure this out. :)
