      That's unlikely.

      Too bad.
Many misunderstandings arise only because of the translator.

Even if playing the arcade is still free to play, this still qualifies as commercial usage.

If I give the machine for 3-4 weeks is that commercial use? I think not.
In Switzerland we have not the same (sick) laws than Germany!

I don't think there's any misunderstanding here - it doesn't matter how much time the machine is used in a commercial place, it still qualifies as commercial usage.
If you friend wants to have an arcade machine in the bar, then they should purchase one, along with the licensed games included.

OK forget it. But that would be my problem. RetroPie will hardly have a problem there.

              "hardly"? = translator

              German original:
Ok, vergiss es. Das wäre aber dann mein Problem. RetroPie wird da kaum ein Problem bekommen.

No, it's not just 'your problem'. As I said, RetroPie includes emulators with non-commercial usage, so you'd be also breaching their license, while associating RetroPie with commercial usage.

If you find yourself unable to respect the RetroPie license, then this is not the place to get support.

As I said, I have to build the device first and borrowing it is just an idea.
                    If that's really a problem, I won't do it.
                    Back to the actual question:
I don't want my machine to be manipulated (if left unattended).
First and foremost, the machine will be in my apartment.

Do you have to put every word on the gold scales here?
Too bad. It is the same in many other forums.
It's primarily about the fun of old games.
Why I am immediately considered an (illegal) trader ...
                      hmm

The whole world will soon be so intimidated by politics and laws.
Then support this system. Like the robots.

                      Like Matrix (movie)

Germany is an extreme example. But the problems with the people are obviously getting bigger.

That should give you something to think about.

Immediately ? I don't see it. You opened a topic, you received answers. When you mentioned using RetroPie in a commercial setting, I pointed out that we don't allow that in the license and that we don't support this kind of usage. Nobody called you anything.

@grant2258 the emulators tend to have non-commercial licenses though.

@markyh444 yea doesnt mean the user was using the ones that are none commercial most are gpl/mit. The question was on retropie itself if its gpl or not to take that hardcore stance retropie should be non commercial to project itself and no rely on other peoples licenses to make a stance the user can just say he isint using nc cores and the issue would be gone.

@grant2258 in the same vein, the user could just say he's using it for home use, then build loads of arcade machines and sell them afterwards. There's no way to Police this, and the amount of people selling these systems fully loaded all over the internet is testament to that.

I'm not saying he will, or is planning to either.

Edit - I'll just add, the main thing that annoys me is the amount of people who get support here so they can build and sell on the projects hard work. Or, afterwards, send their customers here for support.

Yes I see that part for a vanilla image its true they get round that selling the box and a download image which is not good. But your license is gpl you kinda skirting on the non commercial area yourself with a patreon if truth be told if you wanna be pedantic about it.

I would like to add I dont feel retropie cashes in on this they could make a lot of money if they chose to but they dont you get the moral decent project vote no one could dispute that. You project clearly runs itself for it purpose and not for profit.

Im only talking in licensing terms in general
