No wlan0 interface detected
-
Hi All, I have been using Retropie for over 2 years now and I'm having a problem that keeps returning. I have spent houres and houres trying to fix this but limited en no permanent results. I was hoping someone can help me through this.
I have a Raspberry Pi Model 3. (All info is below)
I used to have Jessie installed and my wifi connection would suddenly fail. I would get the massage : No wlan0 interface detected. After trying numerous fixes on the net I would get it to work again but now it's down constantly after I upgrade to Retropie 4.6 (buster)
Tried a fresh install with a new sd card but still I get the same error. You would think It's a hardware issue but when I got this error earlier I got to fix it with a code through the console :
sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
sudo systemctl enable wpa_supplicant.serviceBut this doens't work anymore.
If I try to connect to the wifi in the config menu I get : No wlan0 interface detected.
I tried setting the country but then again I get the same message.I am currently on the latest release (buster) with Retropie 4.6.

How to replicate the problem: Trying to connect to a wifi networkI can't paste any logs cause my Pi will not connect to my network anymore so. If someone can explain how to, that would be nice.

Did you set your the Country first ? I think it's required since Raspbian Stretch in order to use the Wi Fi.
-
If I try to set Country I get : No wireless interface found 🤔
-
@Reignman sounds like a hardware issue. Do you get the same behaviour off a standard Raspbian install?
-
@markyh444 Yes also of a fresh install. So that's what I'm afraid for that's it's hardware related. Although I don't understand why this was in the past also but back then I got it working again temporary ...

Can you run
dmesg
, taken after a cold boot, and post it on pastebin.com ? -
@mitu Yes but how do I save and export this info without network on my pi?
-
@Reignman Save it on the
boot
partition.dmesg | sudo tee /boot/dmesg.txt
Then take the sdcard out of the Pi and read the file from your PC.
-
@mitu thank you, I'm gonna try this tomorrow morning. I'm not home now.
Posting log asap. 😁👌

I'm running into the same issue. Here's a dmesg from fresh boot.
-
@undrwater Please don't hijack a topic - start a new topic. You're running a Raspberry Pi2 - which doesn't have built in wifi btw. So you need a dongle.
-
Wow. Talk about assumptions. I would have sworn I was using the Pi 3. Thanks for the heads up!

Doesn't seem to be anything Wi-Fi related (Bluetooth included). Maybe they're blocked ? Can you run
sudo rfkill list all
and post the output ? Does it detect any Wifi interfaces ?
Did you disable the Wifi/Bt viaconfig.txt
on your Pi ? -
@mitu I get no output from chat command. Havent changed anything in config.txt
With iwconfig I get :
lo no wireless extensions.
Enxb827ebb5a2ad no wireless extensions.

@Aztechomie64 Please open a separate topic and add the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
-
@mitu Any ideas what I could do? Could it ba a hardware failure?
-
It's most likely a hardware failure.
Just to be sure there's nothing disabled, post yourconfig.txt
.
