I've installed Tyrquake and added the pak1.pak file to the directory that was created. But where is the game itself accessed? I thought it might sit under Ports, but that isn't the case... This may be a really daft question but I can't see it.

Quake ports have the data files in $HOME/RetroPie/roms/ports/quake - it's mentioned in the docs.

@mitu So I need to access the game from within the directory (through terminal)? I am aware of where the files are, I just don't know how to start the game up.

The quake.sh launch script should be there. I'm wondering if you have somehow messed up your permissions/ownership again...

@quicksilver You are right, but I don't know how... I did that through RetroPie-Setup... regardless, that works now.

Mouse doesn't seem to work within the game, and there are some issues with which keys do what. Also, the menu Up and Down skips two options at a time, rather than one. So I can only get to half of the options.

Thanks so much again for your patience and help.

@AdamBeGood how are you installing new packages into RetroPie? Are you doing it remotely through ssh or directly from the RetroPie setup menu in emulation station?

@quicksilver Directly through the RetroPie-Setup menu. Then I copied the pak1.pak over through WinSCP, and the audio tracks also.

@AdamBeGood there is an option in the RetroPie setup menu to restore ownership of the ROMs folder. I can't remember exactly where the option is located in the menu but it may be helpful for some of the issues you've had lately. If you can't find the option I'm sure I can track it down for you.

@quicksilver I've done that now, thank you!

Any idea on my other issues with this?

                    • mouse isn't detected
                    • menu skips two options at a time, ie. New Game / Load Game / Quit in first menu
                    • keys do multiple things despite not having that marked against them in the keyboard config screen

                    This is my mouse/keyboard: https://thepihut.com/products/official-raspberry-pi-keyboard-mouse?variant=19324047818814

Edit: I've sussed out part of it, the game was using RetroArch controls and the Quake Controls. If I set RetroArch Controller 1 to none, then the keyboard works fine. Still no mouse controls though.

@AdamBeGood Did you try adding +mlook to Quake's .cfg file ? Or just press ~ (tilde) and type it in the console.

@mitu Yep, that is working now! Now I just need to work out how to increase the resolution and to get the CD tracks working (I am sure I have them in the right folder structure).

I am sure there were console commands for resolution, but haven't found or remembered them yet.

You can't set the resolution through the in-game menu or console commands, you'll need to change it from RetroArch's options.

@mitu As in Rumcommand? I can't find an option that actually looks any better. Or within the Retroarch Menu? I'll have a look for that now. Thank you.

Are you using tyrquake or lr-tyrquake?

                                @BuZz The libretro!

This is all sorted now. Thanks to everyone for your help!

Edit: No, it's not. I still have the CD music issue. Files are in .ogg format and in the right place according to the Retropie Documents. Don't respond or think on this yet though, let me double-check and make sure I haven't missed something.

I can see a User had this same problem in May: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/25809/is-ogg-music-file-support-broken-in-lr-tyrquake/2

I have put the music files in the correct place so far as I can tell.

This is what the retropie guide says:

                                  id1/
                                  ├── pak0.pak ## shareware data
                                  ├── pak1.pak ## registered data
                                  ├── s0.sav
                                  ├── s1.sav
                                  ├── music/
                                  │ ├── track02.ogg
                                  │ ├── ...
                                  │ └── track11.ogg

This is the structure that lr-tyrquake has set up, with two id1 directories.

                                  id1/
                                  ├── pak0.pak ## shareware data
                                  ├── pak1.pak ## registered data
                                  ├── id1/
                                  │ ├── config.cfg
                                  │ ├── save files
                                  │ └────music/

That is where I have the music placed currently but I have tried it in the other directories also. The permissions are 0777, and the format is .ogg as the guide states.

                                  Any help appreciated.

Edit: I've got this working now, I have .ogg files and .MP3 files in home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/quake/id1/sound/cdtracks and they are picked up in Darkplaces.

I've also got lr-tyrquake working, the same files in home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/quake/id1/music

I don't know if the original .ogg files I had were bad, or if having the .MP3s in there makes a difference, but it is working whatever the problem was.
