3do CHD question

Running a raspberry pi 4 with the stock image from here updated a couple days prior to me starting this little project . Standard power supply that came with the raspberry pi using an argon one raspberry pi 4 case OS on a 64GB SD card and all the ROMs and scrape data on a 526 USB drive

I've already edited the es_systems file to include CHD files and everything runs perfectly so my question is more out of curiosity could I have alternatively converted all of the games into CHD files and just created a cue pointing to the CHD files and had the same effect of all the game still playing but at a much reduced storage space?

Like I said it's mostly out of curiosity everything works perfectly with editing the es_systems file but if somebody didn't want to could they have alternatively have done it CHD with a cue file pointing to the CHD file

I don't think so, the .bin and .chd are not the same format.

Thanks I was just wondering it would have been easer for people but not so curious as to test it when I'm already finished with doing it without cue files.

But if anyone decides to do it the build in scraper works perfectly for scraping but skyscraper wouldn't for some reason but I had all the cue files from when I made the CHD files so I just scraped them and edited the gamelist.
