Did you, by any chance, installed the
xboxdrv
driver from RetroPie-Setup ? I can't think of another reason why the Xbox controller would show up as P2, even when you un-plugged the other controller. -
If the Xbox controller was detected as P2, and then the basic controller was unplugged, would it require a reboot or simply unpair/re-pair to get it to jog into the P1 slot? Or should it switch to P1 immediately?
-
Thanks for your response. I haven't installed xboxdrv I will try this. I have unplugged and rebooted the system with just the xbox controller in and when I load the game it still thinks it's P2.
Maybe I should scrab the xbox controller and buy a PC one ? what do you think?
Thanks.

You don't need to install it - this will add an extra controller, which is not what you need/want. Just to make sure - how many controllers are attached to the system ? When you say 'Basic Controller' - is that a separate controller that you can remove ?
-
Hi yes its a basic usb controller. even when I unplugged it. it still thinks the xbox on is P2
-
@zane328 Do you have any input remaps ?
You should get a verbose log file from running a game where the Xbox controller is P2 and post it on pastebin.com. -
Thank you for your prompt response. I really appreciate your help. no I don't have any images remaps.
Sorry If I have got this wrong but I am very inexperienced with the PI's.
I have searched the PI on my network in the folders and cannot trace anything that is listed Verbose .
Thanks in advanced.

Oddly,I have now reset the controller and it wouldnt work when I loaded a game but yet when I plugged in my other controller to get out of the game that acted as P2 when I then tried my xbox controller it worked as P1 this is really random
-
I've gone to load a PS1 game and having the same issue again
-
Without a log file, it's difficult to understand why this happens. Enable SSH on your Pi and then install WinSCP, this way you'll be able to access the
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
file, which should have some indication why this is happening. -
Thank you. leave this with me and Will get it over this evening.

@mitu I have gone into /dev/SHM but there is no files located within this folder. could it be hidden or located somewhere else? Thanks,.
-
You need to start a game first, the file doesn't exist until a game has been run. Make sure you toggle verbose logging when starting the game; after you exit the game you should have a log file in
/dev/shm
.
