PSx multitap query using Quick Menu

So I have Crash Team Racing all set for 4 player and I follow the instructions from the github to enable the multitap

manually edit retroarch.cfg in:
/opt/retropie/configs/psx/The option is:
game_specific_options = "true"Then, within a multiplayer game, load up the Retroarch menu via the menu hotkey combination (select & X/Triangle, by default), go to Quick Menu > Options > Find the Multitap 1 and Multitap 2 options and turn them on, as appropriate. Then scroll to the top, and choose Create game options file. Once this is completed, restart the game, and multiplayer options should become available.
My issue is that I am unable to enter the Quick Menu, I am using an IPAC4 with my Pi3 setup with 6 buttons (A,B,X,Y,L,R) and a dedicate button for Select and one for Start. I cannot get the hotkey combination working to get the Quick Menu up to enable multitap
What am I doing wrong ?
