I'd like to know if there is a way to get Dosbian running along side the RetroPie software, because Dosbian is needed to function as an MSDOS emulator and I don't remember seeing anything about DOS in the RetroPie software which is why the question came to my mind.

I would like to keep installed software to a minimum for efficiency sake, but compatibility with software is just as important as space on your internal storage, if something doesn't work then it defeats the point in having the machine in the first place imo.

@exarkuniv impressive, so it's an all in one system.
Is there a way to control the amount of memory DOSbox has access to?

what I would like in a future iteration is simulation of Voodoo 3DFX graphics cards with 3D acceleration, imagine running games and Windows 9x inside this thing, it really would make the RetroPie the ultimate retro gaming PC.

@agtrigormortis i belive dosbox only can use 32 meg for ram, as the info on the wiki says going to 64meg can make it unstable, but all that is able to be changed in the config for dosbox, and you can make a config for each game when it launches

there is a post on getting windows to work, not sure if any games where able to play or not, so no clue on getting voodoo to work. i tried but never got it, but thats not saying it doesn't

@exarkuniv This is why the topic of Dosbian came up because this OS has in fact been used to emulate enough of a PC environment to get Windows 9x to work, to the point where it can run 9x games.

It is clear why someone would want to do this because not every game will work in Windows 10, especially the 64bit variant, but I guess there's a nostalgia factor also.

@exarkuniv I guess I'll need to experiment when I can be bothered to then, I will post the results when I'm done. My SD card is a high endurance one from Sandisk so it'll have enough durability to withstand a bit of abuse with reformatting if something goes wrong. Hopefully it'll enable both to be used without issue.

@agtrigormortis it would be cool that is for sure. my guess if it can, retropie would be install over/inside of Dosbian. not sure how all that works. im not much of a linux guy, lol

@exarkuniv Isn't Retro Pie running on-top of Raspbian which installs with the RP software? if that's the case it should allow a dual boot with Dosbian anyway. =) if it doesn't then that's unfortunate, given the choice between the two I'd rather use RetroPie on my P4 with the 128gb SD card. I can use the Rasbian OS for more than just multi emulation. When the Vulkan driver comes out I could run PC games n it.

@agtrigormortis you are correct it is, they have the desktop environment turned off to save space.
if it can be duel booted would be very cool for sure

@exarkuniv I found a cool gadget on a website that you might like to read about and share with others, it's a device that lets you copy games off an official Genesis cartridge in addition to flashing your own and you get software for both Linux and Windows for it. It's PCB only, no chassis protecting it so caution is advised when using it because improper use could result in short circuit or damaged carts, however the low price justifies that risk imo.
