    Hello friends just reporting Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus and Tales of Eternia do not play that well on LR PPSSPP,in fact GGXXAC has choppy audio

    In the contrary and surprisingly Fate/Unlimited Codes plays perfect with some very occasional hiccup even being a fully 3D game

    My setup is a pi 4 8 GB model with a Cooler master pi case 40 overclocked with the following parameters

    arm_freq=1950
    gpu_freq=700
    over_voltage=6
    gpu_mem=256

    I am also using OpenGL FKMS

    If you are starving for a modern-ish fighting game with long chains and frenetic adrenaline pumping action your best bets are BlazBlue Continuum Shift II, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend or Fate/Unlimited Codes, stay clear of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, and for action RPGs YS Seven is your best bet if you are using LR PPSSPP

      @sergioad LR-ppsspp is notoriously inferior to standalone PPSSPP in terms of performance. I'm no emulator expert but I'm pretty sure that libretro cores are more resource intensive and that there isn't much that can be done to improve performance on them outside of using more powerful hardware.
      Have you tried playing Guilty Gear on standalone ppsspp? I've only briefly tested it but I seem to recall it playing it full speed.

        @zering I have not, I use the Libretro cores instead of the standalone emulators both for carrying my controller settings and also for UX consistency

        What you say about the performance between the LR cores and the standalone emulators you are right and I agree with you

          @sergioad I've just tried it on PPSSPP and it runs okay. I wouldn't say it's perfect, there are some hiccups and I feel like some of the animations are a bit off, but I'd say it's playable.
          Clearly there's room for improvement but it's night and day compared to the libretro core.
          The libretro core for PPSSPP is far too slow as far as I'm concerned, as I have large collections of ROMs and tend to aim towards total compatibility. The improved performance is certainly worth taking two minutes to bind controls. I'm not sure what you mean by UX consistency?

          If you're into fighters, I also found that Tekken 6, Tekken - Dark Resurrection and Soulcalibur - Broken Destiny run pretty well on standalone PPSSPP.

              @sergioad No worries at all, and thank you for yours. I'll have to check out the BlazBlue games ; I didn't know they existed.

                @zering man I love BlazBlue, if you will start with the franchise on your pi you can start with Continuum Shift II, I would gladly prefer Extend as it has a new character and new moves and supers for old characters but I could not recommend it to you since it is on Japanese

                  @sergioad I don't really mind the language barrier for fighters, and the games look utterly gorgeous, ultra sharp and colourful yet old school pixel art... I'm sold.
                  If you enjoy fighters and Nihon Falcom, I don't know if you're aware but there's an arena fighter by Falcom which pits the characters of Ys against the characters of Trails in the Sky. It's called Ys Vs. Sora no Kiseki. It's weird but there's an english patch for it ; you might get into it.
                  I've spent quite a bit of time on the PSP lately (particularly the Trails in the Sky series), and I'm finding that in all likelihood it is my favourite handheld system of all time ; it's a thrill to be able to play so many games on the Pi (including God of War, crazy).

                    @zering if the language barrier is not a problem to you then by all means go for Extend as it is the superior version, and yes, YS vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga, TBH I am not a big fan of arena fighters but I plan to play it at some point, I find it interesting, does it plays well on the pi 4?

                      @sergioad Flawless on ppsspp. Overall performance on standalone ppsspp on the pi 4 is incredible. With 2 or 3 in frameskip many games run full speed with no issues other than occasional stuttering, and the PSP's framerate is so high that frameskip barely impacts the visual quality. I'm playing some high end games at twice the resolution even. Quite a jump from the pi 3 in my experience as PSP was simply unplayable then.

                      The Falcom games are all pretty solid on PPSSPP actually now that I think about it. Oath in Felghana was the last Ys game on PSP as I recall and it also runs really well.

                          @sergioad I've only really played the first one on PC Engine CD. Ever since these guys almost made me brick my Pi in frustration I've been a bit bitter ^^

                              @sergioad But is Ys 1 really the best place to start the series? Those games are brutally hard and fairly obtuse.
                              Given how much PCECD Ys kicked my butt I was thinking I'd try one of the later entries, like Oath in Felghana.

                                @zering no unless you want the complete story of Adol Cristin, the best is YS the oath in Felgana and YS Seven in RetroPie

                                  @sergioad Excellent, I think I may start there then. Thanks.
                                  Did you play the Legend of Heroes games on PSP?
