Can I configure a controller to play the preinstalled games?
-
Hello, it seems that a lot of the questions here pertain to help/troubleshooting for the RetroPie, I was wondering if anyone would be able to answer general questions about gaming/controller configuration for the Pi as a whole??
So I ordered a controller, the Logitech F310-- since I'd seen a couple people on here praise it-- but since I haven't been able to get RetroPie/RecalBox/anything really working yet, I thought I'd test it out on some of the games that came on the Pi (Boing, Minecraft etc).
However, I didn't see anyplace to configure the controller in the Preferences, and after plugging it into both my Pi4's regular and 3.0 USB slots and holding down various buttons, it still isn't recognized by the system, even as a new peripheral (the controller itself seems to be working, or at least, the green light comes on when I press the Start/Mode/Back button, I forget which).
Anyway I've been searching here for answers, and if I'm seeing correctly, is there another Configuration Program that I need to download?? Or Command Line functions that I need to enter?? And will those allow me to use this controller with these preinstalled games (if nothing else)?
Thank you for any/all help.
(MicroSD is a SanDisk 16GB A1 10, if that matters.)

i have the same contoller and it is working fine with all emulators but i haven't test it with the minecraft. The switch in the back of the controller must be in the place "X" restart the RetroPie with the controller connected and try again to configure input. Are you sure you are using the official image of Retropie ? Because the official doesn't have preinstalled games.

@windg They may very well be using an unofficial image. I agree that's a red flag. While I've never heard of Boing, PIXEL (desktop environment) via official images came with a thin version of Minecraft for me.

I appreciate the replies, but again, I haven't even managed to get RetroPie to work (when I downloaded and tried to open it, it didn't seem to open all the way; I understand that I may need to use BalenaEtcher-- I can't use 7Zip because it's a PC program and I'm on a Mac-- but don't currently have the means to do so). But that's another post for another time. At the moment, I'm currently simply trying to use the controller with the games that came pre-installed on the OS to test it out. If you're running Pi (I believe it's Pi OS or used to be called Raspian), click on the Rapsberry icon on the top left, open/scroll down the menu there, you'll see a Games option, next to Preferences, etc. I don't see any configuration input option there, nor after I plug in or try to press buttons on the controller.
And again, if anyone else here has played that pre-installed version of Minecraft Pi and knows how to exit/quit out of it-- since it took over my entire screen and I basically had to turn off the entire Pi-- that would be helpful as well. Thank you.

The games you play should support a controller interface, most of them probably work with a keyboard and mouse and not exclusively with a controller.
There are generic gamepad-to-keyboard/mouse mappers, for Linux I know about antimicro, but the best solution is for the game to natively support a gamepad.
