Rom transfer through USB-stick troubleshooting
-
Hi, I've been trying to transfer roms via an USB-stick to my Raspberry pi/retropi by first formatting the USB-stick and then creating a folder: retropie.
As I understand after I've done this Retropie should compile maps for the emulators installed. However, this doesn't happen....
Has this something to do with USB-rom service? I tried to find that one through the Retropi setup in configuration/tools but it isn't there. I appreciate all the help I can get with this. This is my specs and software:
Raspberry pi 4 B, Retropie 4.7.7 -
The copying and transfer is done, indeed, by the USB rom service, which is under the 'optional' package section. How did you install RetroPie ? If you're using the image from retropie.org.uk/downoad,
usbromservice
is automatically installed and enabled, but if you did a manual install then you'll have to install it yourself. If your Pi is connected to your network (WiFi or cable), it's much easier to transfer the files via File Shares from another PC, instead of using a USB stick.

About the installation:
I used the image from retropie.org.Its weird, so I have installed Retropie three times. (I got the Raspberry pi two days ago and am very new to this kind system and there were some issues so I decided to reinstall everything).
When I installed it the first two times then this worked flawlessly in regard to Retropie creating a library for the roms on the USB-stick.....File sharing over network
How do I do that? -

HI again, I've been trying now to follow the tutorial. It says you should type:
//RETROPIE but when I do that it comes up with an error message:
(Translated from swedish)
The webpage couldn't be found
It wasn't able to find the IP-adress to the server on retropie. Then you can do network diagnostics etc. The result of that said that it could be a firewall issue. I know that can be a hassle, how do I fix this?

It's not
//retropie
, but\\retropie

@mitu
Ok I might have written it wrong, I tried now what you wrote and it says: No access to the file -
Where are you typing
\\retropie
? In your browser or in the file explorer ? -
@mitu The file explorer. I run on windows 7. I right click on the windows symtom/start and select open windows explorer
-
@chishiya Show a screenshot of the error. If your Pi connected to the network - same one as your PC ?
-
-
@chishiya Is your Pi connected to the same network as the PC ?
If you open a command prompt on windows (cmd.exe
) and runping retropie
do you get a successful reply, with the network address ?
Try also with\\retropie.local
, instead of just\\retropie

@mitu I am getting quite furious about this, is there a setup I need to do somewhere? Like I have to press "allow" somewhere, do I need to do something in the Rasbian OS or is the problem within my windows 7 computer?
-
I've been trying now on two computers at home. One is using windows 7 and the other one 10. On either one I can't see the other one in the network folder. Its like they don't exist. The only thing I can see is the Smart TV and that's one the Windows 10.
-
Some updates, after some tweaking on both computers I am now able to see my two computers on my Windows 10 computer. From that computer, I can then double click on the Windows 10 computer and see the folders etc. When I try and click on the other computer (Windows 7) it says: Can't reach that computer.
Code: 0x80070035 -
@chishiya If it works from Win10, but not from Win7, I guess the issue is somewhere on the Win7 system - maybe it's connected to a different network or has a firewall in place ?
-
@mitu You are totally right, so when I realized that it seems like it works from the Windows 10 computer I followed your previous comments in the thread but unfortunately the same error messages came like when I tried to reach the Rpi before. Now I can't see the Windows 7 in the Network, but I can see the Windows 10 (With folders etc) from the windows 10 network page so that doesn't really help me hehe.

Personally, I've never been able to access my Pi from using
\\retropie
. My conclusion was that Windows has some pretty specific and messy network preferences and it just plain doesn't want to recognize the format that the Pi will advertise it's name on the network for discovery. However, I have always been able to access my Pi by using the IP address.
