    As a new user to retropie I'm trying to sort all my roms out, deleting crap and editing names of games where needed. When editing I always finish with "save" at the bottom of the popup box however quite often on next bootup I find the name hasn't been saved and is back as it started. Am I doing something wrong?

    thanks

    Kev

      @kevlar
      how are you editing it? and how are you exiting emulationstation?

      Im my experience you need to properly shutdown emulationstation and reboot the pi to see the changes take effect.

        Thanks for the reply 3lric, I am editing within retropie, bringing up the options>edit this games metadata, editing the games title on the next page, scrolling down and selecting save, then pressing option again to exit options. it all looks fine until on next bootup some of the titles have reverted, and yes I am shutting the pi down correctly.

        Is there another way to edit?

        thanks

        Kev

          @kevlar I had a similar (not exactly the same) problem and solved when turned off the "save metadata on exit".

          es_menu

          save_metadata_on_exit

            I realized that when the "save metadata on exit" is turned on, the ES gets all the gamelist.xml when it starts and save their contents in memory. And then when exiting ES it gets these gamelists from memory and dump in the respective files just updating the <lastplayed> and <timesplayed> fields.

            I observed it empirically, not by the emulationstation source code. So I'm not really sure if this is what happens, but the behaviour looks like it.

              Thanks meleu, I've changed that setting and it seems to have fixed my issue.
