I'm still struggling with my CD based games. I can't make Emulation Station to work smoothly with them because i have each game in it's own subfolder. The gamelist.xml can't handle that.

So i figure what if i make a separate .cue folder just for EmulationStation and dump all edited cue files there, but this time in one folder. So i did this trick: I opened all cue files in notepad++ and replaced this:

      FILE "

      To this:

      FILE "G:\Emulators\Games\PCE CD\

This way all the cue files should direct to the correct bin files automatically since the paths in the cues are correct. However the games won't load. I have to have the bin files in that folder too, despite not being used by the paths i made. So what am i doing wrong? Can't the cues be separated from bins if the paths inside the cues show where the bins are?

Also, is there any other way for EmulationStation to read subfolders? I still haven't figured out why it can't do something so common.

One more thing i haven't found how to do is, how to add another rom path for the same system?

I don't think EmulationStation supports this. One system has one folder assigned.

It seems the "jump to..." function doesn't work when you have your roms into subfolders.

One last issue i think i found. There doesn't seem to be a button that jumps to different letters in the game list. Or one that jumps a screen. You can only browse games one by one. Considering the "jump to..." option doesn't work if your roms are in subfolders (in my case the Playstation) browsing it's list of 500+ games is s slow process. I do remember the RetroPie version having a button that skips letters or screens in the list.

@Imgema skipping/scrolling can be done with the L/R triggers.

I press them and all it does is the same function as left/right. That is, going to the previous/next system on the line.

                  I'm using this build https://github.com/fabricecaruso/EmulationStation

I see - I think @f-caruso said they're not going to support it here anymore, and use Discord to contact them. Look into their posts, you may be able to find the link.

This windows version is a god send, thanks so much for the amazing work.

I have two issues that I would like to report:

                      1. The VideoComponent on Windows when using showSnapshotDelay displays the static image properly and then replaces it by the video as expected BEFORE launching a game. However when you exit a game, it returns to the static image as it should EXCEPT the aspect ratio is completely wrong.

                      2. The VideoComponent scaling does not seem to be filtered and seems to be using point sampling when downsizing videos which creates unpleasant aliasing.

What is the best way to get those confirmed? I want to add them to the github list of issues but they recommend posting it here first.

                      Thanks for your help

I'm really sorry to update an old thread but I think this is exactly the place where I should ask for help.

Windows users here, I've installed EmulationStation from their website. It's not uptodate. So I found that @jdrassa was updating EmulationStatiuon with automated script.

Short question: how to download it? I'm searching for a .exe file to double clik like every program on windows, but I'm unable to understand "how" to install it. Any help would be great.

Have a nice day and take care.

@mydriaze as you can see from the last few replies, it is not currently building correctly so there is no download to be had, until further notice.

@mydriaze If you are interested there is another Windows EmulationStation updated by fabricecaruso which can be found here. Just click the little arrow next to assets to see the downloads. There are two; one is a continuous-stable and the other is continuous-master. Stable is what I use. Do note that it is drastically different than jdrassa's build so you may want to keep them separate to avoid possible conflicts with your setup. Always back things up is a good practice.

Hi I am trying to use Nintendo Switch with the Windows version of EmulationStation. It brings up the following error in the log:

lvl1: Unknown platform for system "switch" (platform "switch" from list "switch")

Is there something I have to modify to correct this. Also Nintendo Switch is available in the scraper but it is deselected by default and does not scrape. Could you shed any light on this? Not sure if this is a scraper issue or an EmulationStation one.

                                      Thanks

                                      Currently running:
Retropie 4.8.9 on a Pi Zero 2W (Overclock Settings: CPU 1400Mhz)
                                      ES-DE on a GMKtec K6 (Windows 11, 32GB RAM)

This is harmless, it means the scraper doesn't have the 'switch' platform mapped to a known system.

Also Nintendo Switch is available in the scraper but it is deselected by default and does not scrape. Could you shed any light on this? Not sure if this is a scraper issue or an EmulationStation one.

There's no support for Nintendo Switch in the scraper in ES, hence the warning message. You can find the list of supported systems here.

@mitu Thanks. I see this list uses different terminology to es_systems.cfg e.g. Playstation_3 is accepted as ps3. Is it planned to add Switch?

No, but everyone can add send a PR to add it, as long as it's supported by the scraping source (ScreenScraner and/or TheGamesDB).
