@allenpie sounds like a crappy bootleg sd card if it is corrupting that fast.

@allenpie If you pull the plug you will corrupt your sd card. Shutdown cleanly from emulationstation first or invest in the powerblock or mausberry or equivalent.

Perfect what I wanted to know

Do I really have to front 22 bucks to get a power supply for this? Wanted to know what other people are doing just being smart and shutting down correctly. I guess I could show them how to reimage the SD and make a completed backup. It would be for none technical people

But this is what I was looking for. Thank you so much.

No.... Do always a prober software shutdown
Press START > Quit > Shutdown system

Wait until your TV get's no signal from Pie, then you can pull the power plug.

            Annother method, login with SSH
sudo shutdown -h now or sudo poweroff
You can combine this method with a remote control, you just need an IR receiver diode

            or like @herb_fargus wrote:
Buy a powerblock or a mausberry.....
It's your Pie, you decide :)

But I also think that your SD isn't the best one, usually the card is not corrupted so quick.

              Hello

I have been doing a system shutdown and when I reboot the system I just get a blank screen it's just a corrupted SD card
I have both a pi2 and pi3 they both do the same thing with different types of SD cards.

I would like it to shut down correctly so I can make a backup.

Am I doing something wrong I'm doing it in the system menu shutdown machine. Ensure it's off and when I plug it back in, I get a green and red light but nothing loading not even BIOS

Maybe it is a crappy bootleg Pi?

Also try downloading and flashing the image directly from your computer.

Just a fresh OS install, setup controller shutdown took sd out back in, took cable uplug and plug back in. Started up no issue
Going to Update and setup Samba now will keep u posted

Might of been a bad rom copy from my software NAS share.

Bad News with My pi3 Same image that shutdown with the Pi2, different SD. After I do a basic install and install Samba shutdown and take the plug out and plug it back in. It won't power up this is a 16gb Micros SD HD with a rasbery Logo

Going to try my Sandisk on the pi2 after an update to see if it's the same issue.

CanaKit 2.5A USB Power Supply is being used btw

OK more bad news same issue as soon as I updated with a basic install reboot and do a system shutdown it won't come backup
Tested on 2 different PC's doing the Image Via Win32 and tested with both a pi2 and pi3 with different SD cards

Once it shutdowns it won't come back up and needs to be reimaged. What am I doing wrong? Should I just set it up and take off the save lock and not allow it to save? I'm open to ideas?

Ok after so much testing found out to be a user error

I was just unplugging it from the base of the unit, where unit connects to the power but when I unplug it from the plug by the power plug not the adapter it works just fine :) All is well

                                    • nothing got corrupted
