so i read the wiki on sound issues and i tried forcing hdmi in /boot/config.txt and i confirmed that the line is there. but when ever i try anything there is n sound what so ever. no sound in game or in the game menus or on the desktop. I had sound on my 3.7 image but on my 4.0.2 image and on my new pi3 it doesn't work.

You have misspelt hdmi_drive in the config. Uncomment the correctly spelt line earlier in the file.
