@colstar correct, BIOS's are copyright software. it would be no different to including roms.

@colstar Some rom sets have the bios files included within zipped rom file. Neo Geo games require bios files. You will usually see it as neogeo.zip unless they are included within the rom. What RPi are you using? Most people recommend MAME 2003+, I myself have a MAME 2015 set that runs on my RPi4 unit. It's in the experimental packages in RetroPie settings. To Be clear MAME2003+ will only work with MAME 2003+ rom sets ( 0.78-0.188), the rom sets are usually good about what versions they are.

As for finding a rom set I believe we are not able to link the site. But I can tell you there is a Reddit Channel /roms that can help you out with that.

I would recommend using Final Burn Alpha instead of MAME, as there are several different MAME versions that each require a different neogeo.zip BIOS, whereas FBA has a much bigger library of compatible games & only requires 1 neogeo.zip BIOS for the lot.

A bit of research online should help you find one massive FBA collection & the neogeo.zip BIOS that works with it ;)

@red_trev i would go further and recommend "FBNEO".
It is much more improved and up-to-date; FBA is a discontinued project in our days.

I agree with what SirHenryThe5th said, When it comes to MAME and FBNeo In my experience FBNeo has been more consistent and reliable. Another thing to consider is what type of set do you want to use between Merged, Non Merged and Split rom sets. I have non merged but they take up more space.

                  Some games I recommend:
Metal Slug Series (1,2,x,3,4,5) [Hardest is 3 and easiest is 2] Run and Gun
Demon Front (Metal Slug like game with familiars)
                  Asura Blade (1vs1 fighting)
Night Slashers (Bloody beat em up game with zombies)
Gun Force 2 (Predecessor to the Metal slug series)
Cyber Bots (1vs1 fighting game by Capcom)

@emulatre71 I tried to change emulators within RPi but there was only one available. I'm guessing I have to download and add it manually? This will be a problem as I don't have a keyboard that works with RPi.

nslasher, it was added in FB back in 2017, and i remember it was the first emulator to try to properly render all its colors (with success, as far as we know), MAME might have backported our improvements since then.

you don't need a keyboard to navigate the retropie setup menu that lets you install emulators: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#updatinginstalling-individual-packages

that said, on current retropie FBN is pre-installed. perhaps your roms are in the mame-libretro (or other mame folder). to have access to fbn you need them in the arcade or fba folder (folder still called 'fba' for legacy reasons... )
