      I am trying to save my game play by using the select + right trigger combination. I am unable to save games this way, much less load them (with the select + left trigger combination). When I try the select + right trigger combination, I do not see the “saved to slot#X” message, in the lower left corner. (nor do I see any message when I try to load a game this way.

      I am however able to go into the Retroarch menu (select + X) and save a game/load a game from there. When I do this, I get the usual messages in the lower left-hand corner. I am unable to load a game that was saved in this manner and then by using the select+left trigger combination.(I can 't use a mixed approach)

      My left and right triggers are working for game play.

      I have tried different emulators: GB, NES, & SNES and the results are the same.

      Is it possible I am missing some global Retroarch configuration?

      Any help resolving this issue, would be appreciated.

        We don't support 3rd party images. Use the image from retropie.org.uk/download and if you can reproduce the issue, post again in the topic.

          I do not know how to do this. Sorry for wasting your time.

            Did you mean bumper?

            Edit: I just looked at your GamePi case. That doesn't seem to have the full button layout. Do those buttons on the back correspond to L1/R1 (bumpers) or L2/R2 (triggers)? Default configuration (I see you are using a third-party image, so your mileage may vary) uses L1/R1 for quick load/save.

              Yes those are the ones I am trying to setup for save + load ( I guess also dpad to change the save state #)

                @dsquared ah then, I suppose it's probably time to contact the designer of the image you used, or else install the official image from here: https://retropie.org.uk/download/

                You could try reconfiguring your controller, but since it's a 3rd party image there's no guarantee this will work. Are there hotkeys defined in your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig/<controller name>.cfg file?

                  Thank you for taking the time and effort to reply.

                  " Are there hotkeys defined in your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig/<controller name>.cfg file?"

                  There are no files or subdirectories in the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig/ directory. The closest I can find to a global retroarch config file is : /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg . The "joypad" appears to be setup in the /boot/retrogame.cfg file. Unfortunately I do not see any hotkey pairings being set up in either of these files. Do you have any ideas where hotkey pairings are created (such as Select + X = retroarch menu which is working)?

                  Edit 1: Tried editing /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg to add hotkey assignments found here - This didn't work.

                  #Hotkeys- Hotkeys enable you to press a combination of buttons to do such things as exit emulators, save states,
                  #and load states, as well as any other functionality in an emulator. (In the example below 8 is the select key
                  #and 9 is the start key so when I hold down select and press start it will exit the emulator.)
                  input_enable_hotkey_btn = 8
                  input_exit_emulator_btn = 9
                  input_save_state_btn = 5
                  input_load_state_btn = 4
                  input_menu_toggle_btn = 0
                  input_state_slot_increase_axis = +0
                  input_state_slot_decrease_axis = -0

                    Usually they are in autoconfig/<controller>.cfg i.e. Microsoft X-Box 360 pad.cfg.
