Help Changing Disks (Retropie on Odriod Console)

Hello All

So, my situation is this: I am trying to swap to FF7 Disk two, but for whatever reason i can't. I can get into the Disk control menu but I cannot change the disk index. Ejecting the virtual disk tray does not change the disk to 0, it stays at 1.

Additionally, I can locate the .bin and .cue files, but if I use either it will not recognize my save from disk 1.

What do?

PS: sorry if this has been solved before, but I couldn't find anything for my specific problem.

See m3u Playlists for .cue/.bin or .chd's. Once set up, you will "eject disc," change "current disc index" from 1 to 2, then "insert disc."

@moggy yes, if you have a USB keyboard you can plug in. Press F4 to exit EmulationStation and access the terminal. Otherwise you can make the edits on a PC and transfer them to your roms folder via the network share.

That might be a problem then... I have no usb keyboard, and my laptop does not accept sd cards.

Maybe I can borrow a keyboard from a friend. Though would the console recognize the keyboard? Would I need to run a setup?

@moggy I see you're using an Odroid; I'm not familiar with that platform so this may not be 100% the same, but it looks like it runs on Ubuntu which is still Linux and pretty similar to Debian (Raspbian/Raspberry Pi OS) so should be pretty similar. You shouldn't have to put the card in your PC (it couldn't read it anyway except the /boot partition, unless it's a Linux PC -- for an RPi card at least.)

Does the Odroid have WiFi/is otherwise (Ethernet) connected to your home network? You can share files between Linux and Windows PC's (and Mac/iOS devices) over the network share; you might need to enable this manually from RetroPie-Setup >> configuration/tools >> Samba (RetroPie-Setup is accessible from the RetroPie menu in EmulationStation.)

On Raspberry Pi the keyboard is recognized automatically but is set to UK layout until you change it in the raspi-config tool; you won't have that same tool, though, since you're not on an RPi.

Edit: whatever method you used to put the roms onto the device in the first place, should also work here since they're going in the same place.

Okay, bit of an update. Turns out I have absolutely no clue what I am doing at all.

I would need a step by step set of instructions on how to set up a playlist.

Is anyone willing to help with this?

to:
Final Fantasy VII (USA) (Disc 1).CD1

We do this to "hide" the individual discs from EmulationStation; we change the extension .cue to something else that ES doesn't recognize, so it doesn't list them all individually in the game menu.

Do this for all three discs, using .CD2 or .CD3 as appropriate.

Next, since we've just "hidden" the discs from ES, we need to give it something it can see. One file type that it recognizes as a game is the M3U playlist. This is just a text file that "points to" another file or files; in this case, we'll point it at the renamed .cue files. Create a new blank text file, and type in/copy the following:

Final Fantasy VII (USA) (Disc 1).CD1
Final Fantasy VII (USA) (Disc 2).CD2
Final Fantasy VII (USA) (Disc 3).CD3

Save the file and rename it Final Fantasy VII (USA).m3u. Put the .m3u, the renamed .cue files, and all the original .bin files (there should be one or more for each disc) into your psx folder (delete the original .cue files if they're still there).

Finally, you will want to access your save file; just rename Final Fantasy VII (USA) (Disc 1).srm in the psx folder to Final Fantasy VII (USA).srm to match the .m3u file and it should associate.

My biggest issue is that I have no idea how to do ANY of this.

I can get as far as pressing F4 to exit the simulation and get a command prompt, but that is it. No idea what I do from there or what to even type into the prompt.

I am truly appreciative for the support however. This is probably the most helpful community I have seen.

@moggy you can do all of this on a PC and then transfer the files to your device by whatever method you put the roms there in the first place.

That sounds like it would be a lot easier. Any idea how to enable the connection on the odroid? Once that is done I should be able to do all of the above.

We don't support 3rd party images, especially the ones sold pre-loaded with ROMs. Ask the seller for advice and support.

I think its all legit odroid and retropie if that makes any difference.

Not sure what you understand by 'legit', but I don't think selling a system pre-loaded with thousands of games falls into this category.

No, of course. As said before, we don't offer support for pre-loaded/sold systems - even if they're based on RetroPie.
