Kintaro Super Kuma 9000 case in 2021?

Mods - if you don't want this here feel free to delete it. (of course!)
So not really a support question since it doesn't pertain to Retropie directly but I know a lot of programmers hang out here and I can't be the only one left with this case ... so just throwing it out here in General Chat. π
Crossposted from r/RetroPie:
I have had a Kintaro Super Kuma 9000 - SNES Inspired Raspberry Pi Case for a few years now. Unfortunately the company is no longer around. There was one awesome developer that was keeping the safe shutoff script updated but he no longer maintains it.
With Buster being the norm for RetroPie the case's buttons and power LED are useless. The case still is a case with a HUGE heatsink but the flair and draw of the case is no more.
I did experiment with the NESPI+ shutdown script from user crcerror and it almost works. The reset button works fine and the power LED lights up. The problem is this:
No matter where the power switch starts it will power up. The power button does nothing when slid to the OFF position or booting up in the OFF position. When booting in the ON position it also just boots up. When SLID into the ON position it looks like it goes through the shutdown but at the very end you get a KERNEL PANIC 0x00000000 error and it hangs.
Longshot but... Has anyone - or is anyone - willing or able to get this working in Buster? I have zero LINUX programming skills so I'm just a lowly user. I expect "no" but can't hurt to ask. π

Have you tried the scripts from https://github.com/MichaelKirsch/KintaroSnes ? Should work on Buster from what I've seen.
NOTE: moved to the appropriate category. -
@mitu They don't work at all. :(
I ran through the install instructions posted on the main page twice to be sure. Fresh RetroPie install on a 32GB card, updated everything RetroPie then right to the shutdown scripts. No go. So I did it again with a fresh install with no updates. Still no go. I also used Putty so I could copy and paste the commands with no chance of incorrectly typing them in.
The former dev said he hasn't touched them in over 16 months.
