      Hi everyone,
I've recently installed retropie on my raspberry pi 400. I uploaded some games, changed some ES settings, installed some more emulators... just normal stuff =) but then I tried to connect my Bluetooth controller, I went to settings, clicked on Bluetooth and my screen went black...
In fact all of settings go black when I click on them and same thins happen to anything inside "Ports" tab (Can't access Desktop or KODI).
I've searched a lot but didn't found much. When I connect over ssh and I check contents of /home/pi/RetroPie/retropiemenu it outputs this:

      pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/retropiemenu $ ls -la
      total 12
      drwxr-xr-x 3 pi pi 4096 Jul 26 08:30 .
      drwxr-xr-x 6 pi pi 4096 Nov 4 2020 ..
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 audiosettings.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 bluetooth.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 configedit.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 esthemes.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 filemanager.rp
      drwxr-xr-x 2 pi pi 4096 Nov 4 2020 icons
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 raspiconfig.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 retroarch.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:26 retronetplay.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:27 rpsetup.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:27 runcommand.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:27 showip.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:27 splashscreen.rp
      -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 0 Jul 26 08:27 wifi.rp

and I am wondering if it's ok that all files have size 0 bytes. I tried reinstalling retropiemenu but it didn't changed anything. I also tried reinstalling retropie but it didn't fix the problem.

      EDIT 1:

Pi Model or other hardware: 400
      Power Supply used: Official
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.7
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: None
      Controller used: Keyboard
Error messages received: None error message received
Verbose log (if relevant): Didn't find
Guide used: A lot and none at the same time =) I just remember these basic things....
      File: /home/pi/RetroPie/retropiemenu/*
      Emulator: Settings and Ports menu
Attachment of config files: well, they're empty...
How to replicate the problem: Just install retropie 4.7 on raspberry pi 400, put there a few games, enable SSH and SAMBA share

Thanks in advance for any help

Think you did it the wrong way,
enable SSH and samba first and then move the games to raspberry when itΒ΄s on.

You get the same error if the folder is missing on a USB drive, then you have to use the command line to access raspi-config and setup.

@khazaztroph sorry, my bad, did write it in wrong order. Of course I've enabled ssh and samba first and then moved games. πŸ˜€ (enabled ssh by adding ssh file to root directory)

The .rp files are 0 bytes on my system too, and they all work in the menu so I don't think that's your issue.

You say you tried reinstalling retropiemenu; did you try uninstalling it first, and then reinstalling? That's what I would try first: update retropie-setup script, uninstall retropiemenu, reinstall retropiemenu. See if that gets you anywhere.

If this is a relatively fresh install, there's not a lot to lose; you could always start over and see if it happens on a basic first installation.

@blboun Do you have another sd card that you could try, to rule out a faulty card?

What monitor/TV are you using ? We have reports of menus not working when the installation uses a 4k TV. Try adding to your /boot/config.txt:

                  hdmi_max_pixel_freq:0=200000000
                  hdmi_max_pixel_freq:1=200000000

and reboot your Pi, then see if the menus are working.

@mitu I am using my 32" 1440p 165Hz MSI monitor, tried adding those two lines... Didn't help
@sleve_mcdichael I tried that too (now, thanks to your advice) didn't help too.
Whenever I try to access bluetooth menu, it just shows blank screen.
@Clyde No, I don't have another SD card, but I am sure this one is not faulty, it was in use in another raspberry till about a week ago. Then I re-flashed it and put retropie on it.

BTW. I reinstalled retropie right now and the problem is still here
I've also checked hashes (compared to what's on retopie site) and it's the same. I will try another monitor, but it's very weird

@blboun Be sure to check the (or better: another) cable, too.

I fixed it, but it is very weird. I connected it to another monitor, standard office FHD, 60Hz monitor and it now works (only on that monitor), it also works on out TV, which is 4K, 120Hz. I don't really understand, what's going on, that it doesn't work especially on my monitor (1440p, 165Hz).
                          Pls devs, fix it =)
