Redream amd64 version in RetroPie setup?
-
Currently I'm using Lenovo Thinkcentre m72e Tiny (x86 mini PC with x64 supports) and installed Ubuntu 20.04, RetroPie on it.
Recently Redream emulator is available only for Raspberry Pi 4, but it's also usable on x64 linux. Binary link is 'https://redream.io/download/redream.x86_64-linux-latest.tar.gz'
I tried to build shell manually for get it on RetroPie, but 'Installed from pre-built binary' menu isn't available.
Can it added for official RetroPie setup script?

@AriaOTP I am wondering this same thing. I would like to run it as well, but don't see it listed in the experimental packages to load. I'm hoping for this solution

same, I dont see it too , running lubuntu and the stand alone off of the redream website runs like butter on a NUC (NUC5PGYH PENTIUM N3700) ,, however when using the lr-raycast I thank thats what its called , it runs at 15-25 fps if i'm lucky.

I will look at adding support for the x86_64 Linux binaries, but will make sure the author is happy for us to include it first. Cheers.

Ah, was just doing a search on the forum for posts related to Redream on x86_64 as I wanted to try it on my Ubuntu instance - pleased you are going to add support for Linux binaries as long as the author is ok for it to be included!
Cheers

Did anyone ever get in touch with inolen on this? I would really love to see this added. I hit up inolen on his discord but never received a reply back.

@mrcoffee If you already have the standalone redream emulator running, then it is easy to manually add it as an option to RetroPie. I did this on Mint 20.2, so it should work on your Ubuntu.

First make sure you already have one of the other Dreamcast emulators set up in your RetroPie instance (I can't remember if lr-flycast or reicast is installed as part of the initial install.) We aren't going to use this other emulator specifically unless you find a game that doesn't run well in redream, but setting up one of these creates some configs and directories that make it easier.
-
Put your dreamcast game roms in:
/home/(your user)/RetroPie/roms/dreamcast
Replace (your user) with the user you were logged in as when you installed RetroPie.
- Then backup and open in a text editor /opt/retropie/configs/dreamcast/emulators.cfg and add the line:
redream = "/path/to/your/redream/executable/redream %ROM%"
Obviously change the path in the above to where you put your standalone redream executable.
- Then start/restart emulationstationj and initiate a dreamcast game. Press a key when the "Launching" screen comes up, and you should be able to set the default emulator to redream (or set redream for specific roms if you want.)
I'm not sure if future Retropie upgrades will impact this change, but once you have done it once then it is really easy to repeat.
Too much extra info:
You can do this for pretty much any stand alone emulator that accepts the game to launch from the command line. It does get more involved if no emulator at all is available for the platform in RetroPie (e.g. ps2 on non-raspberry-pi-OS linux): https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Add-a-New-System-in-EmulationStation/ In the case where no emulator exists in Retropie for an emulator at all, I had to follow the linked article instructions, then create the appropriate directory for the rom and in /opt/retropie/config, copy the config files retroarch.cfg and emulators.cfg from another emulator's config directory, and manually modify both of these files.I'm doing this mostly from memory and googling. If you have problems post back.

@hokielyfe Your solution works perfectly on Ubuntu 20.04
