      I have a manual installation running in a rpi3 with debian 8 and an XBOX joypad controller configured with XPAD. If I connect the controller before I start retropie everything works perfect, but if I re-connect or connect another controller after retropie has been started, it won't recognize it even though it's listed in /dev/input/js*

      I read throuh the retroarch documentation regarding autoconfig (https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/wiki/RGUI#setting-up-joypad-autoconfiguration) and all the config files are in place, however, it's still not working.

      I think something might be missing at the OS level, so I'm trying to understand how Retropie (RetroArch) actually detects controllers when the "input_autodetect_enable = true" is set.

      I'm running RetroPie 4.0.3

      @meleu ???

        When you say "it won't recognize" you mean emulationstation? RetroArch? RetroPie-Setup dialogs?

        Well, I don't have a XBox joypad... Did you read this part of the wiki?: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller

        [edit] I would suggest you to change your topic title to "XBox joypad hotplug not working". It seems to be an issue related to this specific joypad.

          None of the 3. It doesn't appear in RetroArch or Retropie menus at all

          @meleu I believe it has nothing to do with the pad itself because it works perfect if I start retropie after the joypad has been plugged. I'm trying to understand how "hotplug" is supposed to work at a lower level as I think I might be related to my system configuration or something as I'm running a manual instalation as I've stated before.

            Do you have another joypad to check if this issue happens? I have USB and Bluetooth controllers and this kind of issue never happened (hotplug always works fine). I'm using RetroPie in my Raspberry Pi and in my Linux Mint (ubuntu based distro). I still suspecting of the XBox joypad driver and suggesting a reading on the wiki.
