Hi all this may be a little hard to explain. I have a cocktail cabinet with a pi 3b+ in it. I want to use gamepads for the system emulators sometimes but I want the arcade controls to be default. Is there any way to quickly switch to a gamepad and then back to arcade controls if I need to??

To create a custom profile for a single console...

Open a game using the target console emulator
Hold the Select button and press X
      Choose Controls
Optimize your button configuration as needed
      Choose Save Core Remap File

To create a custom profile for a single game...

Open the game you want to create a custom controller profile for
Hold the Select button and press X
      Choose Controls
Optimize your button configuration as needed
      Choose Save Game Remap File

      Hope this helps. :)

        Hi,

I have a 2x USB splitters on 1 on Port 1 & 1 on Port 2, I use a zero delay plugged into Port 1 with a 8bitdo controller and the same for port 2.
        I downloaded Joystick selector https://github.com/meleu/RetroPie-joystick-selection

Configured all my controllers to use the using the zero delays (aka joystick/arcade buttons) as the default.
Then configured my Dreamcast/PSP/PSX/N64 games to use only the 8bitdo controllers.

Best of both worlds, have analog when it's needed for dreamcast etc and standard arcade controls for MAME/FBN etc.

        Happy to contribute.

RetroPie 4.7.1 image built with Raspberry Pi Imager on 512Gb SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDXC card
        2x DragonRise Controllers
        2x 8BitDo SN30Pro+

You could configure SNES to use both arcade and/or controller

            Raspberry Pi 4 o/c to 2MHz
            Pizen Case & Ice Tower
            Samsung T5 External SSD (500GB)

As the printed error hints - do you have the RetroPie-Setup folder in /home/pi ? How did you install RetroPie ? Please add more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
