Use buttons from controller 2 for player 1
-
Hi all,
I am new to this world and I hope that some kind soul can give me a pointer on where to go next. :)I have a cabinet with the following setup:
- 2 joysticks, each with 6 buttons for fire/etc.
- player 1 start & select
- player 2 start & select
- coin button
The issue I have is that the 2 controllers that retropie detects are not separated evenly, so:
on controller 1, I have 1 joystick and 6 buttons.
on controller 2, 1 joystick, 6 buttons, player 1 start & select, player 2 start & select & coin button. Is there a way for me to map the player 1 button & select which are on controller 2 for player 1?
Thank you...

Some arcade emulators (Mame 2003/2003-plus) will allow you to use the Mame menu to do the mapping and you can select P1 controls from the 2nd connected gamepad, but generally the answer is no, there's no general method to 'move' controls from the P2 controller to P1.
You'd be better if you'd have a symmetric setup for P1/P2, especially if the encoders are identical (same model/make).

@mitu Thank you very much. I'll try to see if I can rewire the controls then.

You can with a sufficiently recent version of retroarch, you just need to change the
Mapped Port
setting to 1 inQuick Menu > Controls > Port 2 Controls
(i think it has been available for 1 year or so).@ostinelli yet it's still recommended to have properly configured symmetric P1/P2 if you don't want to spend your life remapping.

@barbudreadmon thank you, I did end up remapping the controllers.
