PS1/N64 - Lines on Images (no filter applied) on PI3B
-
Hi everyone, new here. I recently downloaded Retroarch for the pi3b and it has been the best emulator img I have ever used. It's simplistic for beginners but it is also very customisable (just what I was looking for).
I have been facing two problems currently, one of them which is listed here. When I play PS1 on lr-PCSX ReArmed (in this case the game is Tekken 3), there seems to be slight lines at the backgrounds. It should be noted that I am not using any shaders and am running this at 240p.
A similar problem occurs with Mario Kart 64 on the lr-Mupen64Plus emulator in the menus - there are lines that appear by the characters in the character select screen. Once again, there are no filters and I am running this in (I think) 224p.
For PS1 I have not added any BIOS but I have turned of Dithering. It has helped a lot, but there are still lines. Were these games supposed to render like this back then and thus you get faint lines on the screen? There is also no monitor problems so I think it is either a video setting or just how these games render at 240p.
If you do require a picture, I will be more than happy to provide a picture to show what I mean.
Thanks in advance.
P.S I am using gl as my video driver.

Are you running RetroPie at all ? This is not a general RetroArch forum (that would be https://forums.libretro.com), but it's dedicated to RetroPie (which includes, among other emulators, also RetroArch).

@ksFZero for Mario kart is it similar to this problem? https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/issues/1142
-
Are the lines similar to this ? :
If yes, maybe this is a indication that the emulator needs more process power, but the lr-pcsx-rearmed is not cpu hungry. I taked the screenshot with lr-beetle-psx, it's a heavy Ps1 emulator for RPi4.

Hi all, sorry for the late reply. First of all, thank you @mitu for providing the Retroarch Forum, that is greatly appreciated. Secondly, the lines are not faint lines and not as harsh as @windg picture. I think that I will consult the Retroarch Forum and see what they have to say. If it's available for PI3B, I will probably download Duckstation to see how that performs.
Once again thanks for everyone's support!

@windg that's just interlacing videomode used by tekken 3, and few other ps1 games. it's correct emulation

@dankcushions Thanks, i didn't know this!! I was believing that the emulator doesn't run fast enough and produce this lines. It's noticeable with games that running in 60 fps, like Tekken 3 and few others. So, this lines was the only "issue" that i had with lr-beetle-psx in a stock RPi4 with 64 bit Bullseye or Bookworm.

@windg they look pretty bad on a modern screen, and i guess even worse if it's a bad frame rate! :)
they're really designed for CRT screens where you can't see the 'lines' as the image retention of the screens sort of blur it together. lr-pcsx_rearmed has a core option to disable the effect and i guess beetle will have something similar

@dankcushions Thank you so much for the support. I thought it must be a video problem but if it is emulating like this (the way it is supposed to be) then it is no problem. I am pretty sure Mario Kart 64 was intended for CRTs as well so that is why there are those lines. I also run PSX and N64 at a low res so that they perform well. I will probably dump some PSX Bios and configure some settings so that I get access to all the benefits of the system.
Once again thank you to everyone's support.
