PS1 USB adapters - Anyone got one to work?

This is a very generic question not specific to a particular Pi, as I'm having the same issue with Windows 10 and Xubuntu.

I foolishly bought myself a pair of these, it was a moment of weakness. I've just built myself a Pi4 Pistation, using a Retroflag case.

I'd like to know if anyone else has tried using these, either with a Pi or anything really. Emulationstation detects it as a PS3 controller, however the trigger buttons are none existent. In Steam, i ran the controller configuration and the left analogue stick shares the same inputs as the D-pad. It's totally unusable as it stands.
I just wondered if I'm missing something, a driver maybe or whether these are (as i suspect) a pile of junk.

@Haemogoblin at some point all these cheap PS2 to USB adapters switched to a new chipset that causes issues. I don’t know what it is and I own some older ones versions from the mid to late 2000s that work great. But I bought some about 3/4 years ago, That looks like the exact same thing I bought , and none of them worked properly. I was having the same issues where neither my computers, nor my raspberry pi’s can work with them. I just gave up.

@lostless I build the Pistation recently, bought two Playstation Classic usb controllers. Ok they plug in upside down, but they're alright, except the cables are about a meter to short. Why on earth Sony thought 1.5m is long enough from the TV to the sofa IDK. As I've come across a couple of games wanting the analog sticks, I thought, heyho CEX is selling dual shocks for £8, why not give it a shot. Using an original controller instead.

But as you discovered, they don't flipping work. Emulationstation see's it, but only sort of. My xubuntu laptop DOES actually seem to see it, Steam detects the buttons etc. But Windows not so much luck, if i didn't know better I'd say it's detecting it as
Left stick = Yoke, joystick
Right stick = pedals, rudder

Was really putting my hopes on someone here, telling me I'm doing it wrong and "this is how you set it up". However I was leaning more over to *I just bought cheap junk from china, get what i paid for"

I wonder if there is a solution to getting PS1 controllers working on the Pi?
