Have I destroyed my Pi 5?
-
Hi,
I've had a Raspberry Pi 5 since release, and its been working well (was used as a RetroPie machine), I removed this today to put a case on it, and seem to have caused some kind of issue.
First off, I couldn't get sound through HDMI (which was working before), I tried any troubleshooting steps I could find online, but had no luck, so decided to flash a fresh install of RetroPie.
I installed Raspbian lite, using Raspberry Pi Imager (configuring my username, host name and WiFi credentials as I've always done), but when it booted up, it hadn't connected to my WiFi network. I tried manually connecting to WiFi using raspi-setup, but was given the error "there was an error running option s1 wireless lan".
I tried flashing a few more times, trying different programs to flash, and now my USB keyboards don't register keystrokes on the pi. No matter what I do, I can't now type. I had a search about and eventually flashed the bootloader via Raspberry Pi Imager (this shows USB connected when I had my USB keyboard connected).
Is there anything I can do to rectify this? Or will I have to buy a new unit?
As far as I can tell, my sound, wifi and USB slots on my Pi are non-functional.
When I reinstalled my official fan, I managed to get some of the thermal pad from the heatsink in the RTC battery slot - I cleaned this out as best I could - could this be causing an issue?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Stew

So, I've updated the bootloader to "NVME/USB Boot" (got the green screen and rapidly flashing green light), removed the SD card, placed a USB stick (flashed with Raspbian Lite) into one of the USB3 slots, and it won't boot.
I get the message below:
