Feedback on Installing All Experimental Packages (help needed)
-
After installing all the experimental packages available in RetroPie, I ran into a pretty rough experience. My goal was to test how much storage a full setup would require, so I went ahead and installed everything. But once the installation was complete, my Raspberry Pi started behaving strangely — EmulationStation became unstable, in-game issues (input problems, auto fast-forward and a lot more) , not only that but I also completely lost audio.
I understand that some experimental packages may throw errors or have compatibility issues, and I get that they’re not officially supported. But if they’re listed as installable, there should at least be a clearer warning about the potential risks. Saying “it’s not safe” after the fact doesn’t help much when the setup breaks and I have to reinstall everything from scratch.
Also, I’m not entirely sure which package caused the issue, or what the purpose is of including broken or unstable packages if they’re not meant to be used. That said, I did notice that my Nintendo DS games didn’t show up until I installed some of these experimental packages — so they clearly do serve a purpose in certain cases.
Just wanted to share my experience in case others are considering a full install. Proceed with caution, or if there's a solution to make things right without reinstall everything from scratch (in the mean time I'm trying base installation again but I'm not sure if it may help in anyway.)
Issue reported on raspberry pi 5 , 16GB

@doominvada guessing here but install desktop is potentially what lost you audio, theres an option somewhere to purge unwanted packages, like certain audio ones that mess things up

@retropieuser555 as far as i understand that changing the sound from hdmi0 to 1 did the trick (but for me it was too late i have already deleted all the packages i had)
right now I'm reinstalling everything (not sure if it solves the x4 speed or idk rom speed problem)
I'll keep this post updated as far as i go with this issue.
but thanks anyway ( yes it might be it i forgot that it installs an desktop environment) much appreciated!
