looking for info in regards to emulators on retropie

where can i find the following information?
how to create a romlist that works for emulationstation when you have a recent romset like 0.1xx
how to run an emulator from the command line
and
where is the emulator files on the retropiefor example, im trying to set up Attract Mode but i can not get the executable to work. I think retroarch isn't installed as I found one place that showed how to run retroarch on the command line, which was retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-pocketsnes/libretro.so
but retroarch is not a command to be foundif anyone can help me also on my AM post, http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=1022.0, thanks!

@kingtink I am no linux expert but did you try the sudo command before the command above. Another member here floob made a few images for attract mode maybe you could use one of those.
As for the rom lists I am looking into attract mode myself tried it on a pc first , and in a menu there is generate rom list option basically looks at what roms you go the generates said list.

you don't want to run retroarch as
sudo
.you can see the emulator launch lines in
/opt/retropie/configs/*/emulators.cfg
retroarch is installed in/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin

@twd oh i forgot to mention that it was for mame. my roms work for other emulators like snes and genesis on ES but not on AM.
also, not interested in using floobs image yet. I like to make it myself and know how to configure it manually. just seems like the right info isnt displayed anywhere online. i have a feeling i need to get floobs image tho, this shit is frustratingly difficult.
