What are the best PSX games to play with a SNES controller?

I never had a Playstation, but I know people that did, so while I know some games, I'm not too well versed in the whole selection.

I have a couple of cheap USB SNES controllers for my RetroPie build and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for the best PSX games that can be played with a SNES controller, so no thumbsticks, and only the 2 shoulder buttons.

The Marvel fighting games (vs Capcom, vs Street Fighter, etc) seem to work well, and I'd imagine side-scrollers (Metal Slug, Catlevania) would be okay, but what about racing games? Driver, Need for Speed, HydroThunder, Wipeout? Do they still work or do they need a thumbstick and analogue triggers?

What about the 3rd person games like Metal Gear, Soul Reaver and Dino Crisis? Any suggestions people have would be appreciated.

Note: I'm open to just about any genre (a good game is a good game, no matter the type), but I lean more towards the fighting, beat 'em up and racing.

Well I special love for Soul Reaver...great game.
You do not need to worry about analog sticks for PS1 games. They only game I have come across that forces you to have one is Ape Escape. All the others are completely ok with a dpad....although for racing I always use an analog stick.
I really like the Medevil series. I love games that do not take themselves too seriously.
Also don't forget to turn on enhanced graphics....makes a huge difference!

Cheers @Shakz. I'll have to look into the Medievil games, as I'm aware of their existence, but I've never played them.

So, you don't need the analogue triggers for racing games? Do you just use the shoulder buttons instead, or are brake and accelerate mapped to the face buttons?

Do you have a link for how to turn on enhanced graphics?

Ah you cannot turn on analog triggers....Retropie cannot read them...only analog sticks.
The retropie only reads on or off for the triggers. :-(
Anyone correct me if I am wrong on this.
I made this VS video a bit ago but I also go into how to enable it. Not hard :-)
