I installed ZDOOM from the server. Reboot.
Go to play the DOOM demo that came with it. It loads, but as soon as I try to start a game. CRASH, down for the count.Anyone else getting this? Pi 3.

@XD3l i just installed it today. Doesnt even boot at all for me.
-
Thanks!
-
Yeah been using Retropie for ages but ZDOOM does not work for some reason...defo not just you.
-
please post the contents of
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
-
There is no /dev/shm/runcommand.log
-
@XD3l there should be after launching. Is your retropie up to date ?

@XD3l Must be an upstream change or something - could have been bad luck when the binary was built - have you tried installing from source ?
-
Yes, can't install from source because of SDL2 issues...
-
@XD3l That doesn't help me much. What issues ? Do you have a log ?
It build fine the last time I tried (when I built the binary archives). I will test it when I have a moment and look into the crash.

/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommanStupid question, but if it is failing on MIDI playback, I wonder if it would work if you used the MP3 sound files in place of the MIDI ones.
-
@enderandrew I don't think that is the cause of the crash, but I am debugging it currently.
-
Are you asking if I am trying to compile from source via Retropie-Extras or by hand?
-
@XD3l From RetroPie-Setup via the gui, but it won't help as I have tried that. Working on it now (I have it working, it's related to compile options I believe or something related to the way it's built/installed via retropie-setup since it works from a manual compile).
-
After a lot of time spent, I have git bisected it and have some data to submit to the author. Will do that in the next day or two.
-
@BuZz thanks buzz. Hopefully he fixes it.
-
Just had a thought, and I have it working now. Will submit a fix in a moment. It's only a problem when building for armv7+ target.
Same issue that plagued PPSSPP on Raspbian due the armv6 userland and GCC atomic operations. I think it's been fixed after gcc 4.9.
I should have thought of this sooner - I spent long enough debugging PPSSPP and I've just spent a similar time on zdoom! oops.
-
Please update zdoom from binary (or update retropie-setup and build from source) and it should work :)
-
@BuZz will try after im done watching survivor. Thank you
