ROMs list will not refresh
-
Hello all,
I have a RP3B and I installed retropie 4.1 on it.I downloaded some ROMS and I'm able to play, so I know that my configurations are correct.
I cleaned up some ROMS, but it seems that the RetroPie menu is not refreshing. I'm using a USB stick to hold the games. For example, under NES, I had 1700 ROMs and after clean up, I'm down to 500. But when I load RetroPie and put the USB stick in (wait 10 minutes), the number of ROMs under NES is still 1700. Is there anyway to FORCE a refresh or delete the cache and let it reload?
I've tried to exit RETROPIE via "F4" then type "exit". Also from the MENU...Quit, Restart Emulation Station.

@James2 Have you changed the es "parse gamelists only" setting? If on, it will only read the roms you have scraped, so if you add any new roms it will not look for them unless you turn this back off. Details here...

@rbaker does no one actually read the wiki anymore? I guess this is how gym guys feel at this time of year... why isn't the wiki a sticky post at the top of this? I have been trying to help people, with my limited knowledge, but no one seems to want to know or look it up for themselves. They just want an easy solution and have someone else guide them through it. Eh, No thanks.

@columboscoat Doesn't look like it these days. Can't do more than add this in at the top which has now been done:
Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
That references the Wiki. -
How dare you ask for Help in a Help and Support forum.
Seriously though, a potential solution is under "Why does shut down/boot take so long" in the FAQ. Can you blame the guy for not finding the one line in there that might solve his issue?
Let's not turn off community members just because there's an influx of noobs after xmas :) Save those comments for the truly helpless.

Thank you for the help @rbaker.
For those that just want to criticize or belittle new users...only if we all could be as perfect as you. Gold Star

to be fair that option will always be off unless turned on.
however, on here and reddit i've seen it be the cause of so many problems. i wonder if it needs to be less easy to switch on. a child or novice user, or even a controller down the side of the sofa, could accidentally turn it on maybe?

I checked my PIE and "Save Metadata on Exit" is ON and "Parse Gameslists only" is OFF.
Anything else I can try????

@James2 oh i think i see, so you've deleted roms from your USB stick and want those to be deleted from retropie also? i'm afraid that won't work :( it only transfers new roms from USB to retropie.
to delete roms from your system you can either do it a rom at a time (via 'edit metadata > delete in the options menu for a rom), or via samba or SFTP: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms#sftp-needs-to-be-able-to-establish-a-connection-to-your-raspberry-pi-either-via-internet-or-internal-network
(or command line)

@James2 I'm not trying to belittle anyone. I am however criticising people for refusing to use the resources out there to help themselves. If people can't grasp how to read a wiki, search a forum or use a search engine then perhaps the Pi and RetroPie is just not for them.

@columboscoat you need to calm down and watch your language please.
-
@dankcushions OH....ok. I get it. Thank you for your help.

@columboscoat I did search the forum and someone posted a question just like mine, but nobody answered it. In the FAQ there's nothing about refreshing ROMS from a USB stick. So I apologize if I've offended you and am trying out a new hobby. I will return to my cave and never ever bother u again. 1000000 apologizes.
