    Hello Everyone,

I'm fairly new to the Raspberry Pi / Retropie.

    My setup is:

    Raspberry Pi 3
Wired USB Keyboard - to control and use the command line.
    8bitdo SFC30 Bluetooth Controller

Running latest version of Retropie image.

I've been very successful with getting everything up and running using the info on the forums / wikis / YouTube vids. So this will be my first forum post, because I cannot seem to figure this out.

When I power-up the Pi3 and power / connect my SFC30 controller (using R + Start as recommended) The SFC30 lights-up and connects successfully, however I have been noticing that when on the Retropie menu, it's starts jumping around from left to right until I press a button on the controller? At first, I thought that it might be a UI thing, but it doesn't look normal. I've tried removing the BT device and re-pairing the controller, rebooting the system but the same thing happens. This behavior does not occur with just the wired USB keyboard connected.

I was wondering if this might be related to firmware on the controller? Has anybody else experienced this? Any solutions?

    Thanks!

              @digitalnomatik @RetroFreak89

              1. Reset the controller configuration by exiting EmulationStation pressing F4. Type
              sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

              Reset EmulationStation controll configuration.

              1. Unpair your 8bitdo controller in the BT setup.

              2. Connect your 8bitdo gamepad to your PC (fully charged) and upgrade to the latest Fw from 8bitdo's website.

              3. Redo the controller configuration in BT Setup.
Make sure the hack option is turned "off" and that you power on the controller with start only!. On the pro only start up with power on.

After you are done redo the controller configuration in EmulationStation (restart first)

              sudo reboot

@Rion Thanks for responding! I will try these steps when I get home today and report back. Is it worth noting that I've already upgraded the firmware (most recent) on the controller? And when I connect - I hold R + select to pair. Might that be what is causing it? I ask because I see you mentioned starting / pairing using start only. Thanks again!

I'm having the same issue and the controller is only working in emulation station not in roms.

I have the same issue and set up. Have logitech and Xami controllers that work fine.

I'm completely uninstalling/reinstalling retro pie to see if the problem persists.

Same here! I'm using an NES30 controller and I've already followed @Rion 's steps.

Good news! This is what I did to get it to work:

Backed up my ROMs and BIOS to a local drive
Re-installed disk image from retropie to my SDCard
                            Updated scripts/installed latest packages
                            Rebooted
Followed this guide, I just turned the controller on, didn't need to put it into pairing mode: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/8Bitdo-Controller/

I also reinstalled retropie from from the latest image on the website. Still the same problem :(

I'm on firmware 2.70 how about you?

You probably have the wrong 8bitdo hack mode - you need to reconfigure after switching it off - did you follow the guide here ? https://retropie.org.uk/docs/8Bitdo-Controller/ ?

                                    Hi there,

I do not know if it's the correct topic but I had to install some of

                                    these files

                                    into the directory

                                    /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/autoconfig/

to get the controllers working while playing roms.

                                    My configuration also is

                                    2* 8bitdo SFC30 controllers
                                    raspberry pi 3
                                    retropie 4.1

@BuZz I did follow that guide it's been posted already the post above mine.

                                      I did a clean install
turned off the "8bitdo mapping hack = off "
                                      paired the SFC30
                                      udev rule
                                      rebooted
                                      setup the controller in ES

Still when I turn it on it starts scrolling left until I press right.

@denisuu does the controller work in games ? That was the issue I was replying about - the issue with it navigating left until a button is pressed is a known kernel issue and affects a lot of controllers - nothing can be done about it in retropie by us automatically - but it's possible to manually fix it, but it requires a kernel recompile.

@BuZz Yes it is now, but I will open another topic about that isue.

Is there any fool proof tutorial on how to recompile the kernel? Or is that advanced stuff?
