@dankcushions just make them uneditable to anyone and that's all :) if anyone would like to make an update maybe there should be some comments option in next sheet or in additional column? Add a column so we could type what we would like to add there. Then you can just filter empty cells and do some reviews from time to time?

Can I somehow PM you? I tried to check if it's possible to make a list of possible options and block possibility to use some other data and it works on Google Sheets.

@dankcushions you should be able to lock everything except the 4 columns that should be user editable by using protected cells

@herb_fargus those are protected I think but there should be data validation put on RPi status cells that only text like "ok", "has issues", "doesn't work" is acceptable.
But still I think that whole sheet should be blocked excluding one column for user comments.

@Melvin.FoX yes that makes sense for the data validation but anyways I'll defer to @dankcushions as the compatibility lists are in his domain.

Mame is just far too massive and fragmented to come up with any homogeneous solution, docs or compatibility list wise.

unfortunately there's no such data validation in google sheets. if you unprotect a cell, a user can put whatever they want in it.

i don't really like the idea of locking everything but a user comments field because they will suffer the same fate, and even if they didn't, i don't want to be the gatekeeper to translating comments to 100,000s of game status in the various sheets :)

it has to stay as it is IMO. it mostly works.. i rely on other people bringing to my attention when lists go bad. i only regularly look at 2003 and fbalpha sheets.

                    WINE's AppDB is open-source: https://appdb.winehq.org/

I imagine it would take something like that (plus server space and people to maintain it) in order to manage compatibility contributions across multiple MAME versions. Not trivial!

@dankcushions I tried it on my second google account and I could choose an option from dropdown but couldn't write anything. Can someone else take a shot and try it?

it's because we were given the wrong link. if you open it in sheets using this URL:

                                https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A-io1W-7alTHQ0DmlaBMKkTgJUa8f81FRVdPSS8QdxA/edit#gid=1753376840

as you can see, i broke it :) you can't validate cells in this way, as i said.

I can't access it but still I know that You can override it by just copy pasting text on the cell with data validation :/
Still just disabling any editing option will work fine. I don't trust any of those sheets but for me they are a list of compatible roms.
