Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3
Power Supply used: 5V/3A power adaptor.
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1 image, updated to 4.1.10 retropie_script
Built From: 4.1 image from RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Rapoo T-Series keyboard
Controller used: Bluetooth WiiU Pro controller and Bluetooth PS3 controller tested
Error messages received: key you just presses is not recoqnised by the SDL. To help get this fixed, please report this to SDL mailing list sdl@libsdl.org ENDEV KeyCode NUMBER
Emulator: All emulators tried so far.

      How to replicate the problem:

      1. Downloaded 4.1 image from RetroPie website and added to sd card for use with Raspberry Pi 3.
      2. Booted and set up controllers and added rom files/bios files. Controllers used WiiU Pro and PS3 (both Bluetooth).
      3. Exit emulationstation to command screen and perform a full "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" to fully update Raspberry Pi 3 to 4.4.38-v7+ arm71.
      4. Go to retropie_setup.sh and update RetroPie Script to 4.1.10 - currently at (6004444).
      5. Update Emulation Station from binary or source (have attempted both)
      6. Reboot and go to Emulation Station. Using WiiU Pro controller launch any emulator and see screen BERFOR runcommand option appears.

      Results:

The message "key you just presses is not recoqnised by the SDL. To help get this fixed, please report this to SDL mailing list sdl@libsdl.org ENDEV KeyCode NUMBER" is spammed before the runcommand option appears.

I have tried updating the RetroPie-Setup script, performing more "sudo apt-get upgrade" and updating Emulation Station from source numerous times.

Please note that this issue is slightly different to the issue reported here - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5296/help-keyboard-not-working which was fixed by @BuZz . I am not experiencing any problems with the keyboard and my Bluetooth PS3 controller seems to be unaffected. Issue reproduces with my WiiU Pro controllers.

Please let me know if any further information is required or if I can try anything else.

      Thanks!

@sonicsheppard Could be an issue with sdl 2.0.5 - just to confirm it was fine on the 4.1 image before updating retropie-setup and emulationstation ?

I don't have this controller unfortunately, but I may know the problem as I think I commented out the error before, but may have put it back in after some upstream changes. Apart from the spamming does it actually work as before ?

          Hi @BuZz

That's correct, it was working fine on the 4.1 image before and has only started being an issue since I updated retropie_setup and emulationstation (and sudo apt-get upgrade in case that makes a difference).

Also, I've just confirmed that my Bluetooth 8bitdo FC30, USB RetroLink N64 and USB Xbox 360 controllers are all working fine. It's just my Bluetooth WiiU Pro controllers that are affected. (Side note - you should get one, I would consider them the best! :D)

The controller works as normal, it's just the spamming. Emulationstation does feel a little more sluggish when using it, perhaps due to the spamming in the background? But it's quite difficult to tell and I could well be wrong.

Let me know if there's anything else I can try for you.

          Thanks!

@sonicsheppard The only difference is we hide the error on the older version - I think I put it back in as there were some other changes which I thought resolved it. Will comment it out again.

@sonicsheppard I have fixed it - whilst I build new binaries you can rebuild sdl2 from source from terminal by doing

                sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_packages.sh sdl2

sdl2 binary packages are now updated (update retropie-setup then ES).

                    Hi @BuZz

I've just updated the RetroPie-Script and then updated emulationstation from binary. It did download and make changes to sdl2, but unfortunately I'm still still seeing this spamming message after a reboot.

Emulationstation is saying "EmulationStation V2.1.2.RP" on the Main Menu, is this because I had updated Emulation Station from source a few days ago?

Would you advise I try uninstalling emulationstation and re-installing from binary, or maybe re-installing emulationstation from source?

                    Thanks

@sonicsheppard Strange as I commented out the code that prints that -

what is the output of dpkg -s libsdl2-dev from a terminal ?

My bad - I was in a rush and somehow missed applying it to the retropie 2.0.5 branch. Have done the commit now, but will need to update binaries again.

No worries @BuZz , just let me know when it's good to try again and I'll let you know the outcome.

                          Cheers!
