Start Up Error?
-
I am new to all of this. I recently put together a retro console using a raspberry pi 3 model B, and installing retropie onto a Samsung Evo Plus 64gb micro sd card. I'm powering the pi via a Standard outlet in my home. Everything was working fine for days, until this morning i was met with this on start up...
Never ending scrolling text...
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance. -
@AdamHurford bad sdcard or badly written image.
What do you mean by a standard outlet?
-
@BuZz should I format it and reinstall everything? Also I mean, a plug in the wall.
-
@AdamHurford yes. What psu specs? Your card is corrupted.
-
@BuZz My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite running windows 10. 4gb of ram and a 64bit OS, x64 based processor.
-
@AdamHurford PSU = power supply unit. How are you powering the RPI3. Eg. Output specs of power supply. 5v Xamps
-
@BuZz sorry haha. 2.5amps 5v
-
Somehow your card has corrupted. Your PSU sounds ok, but may be to blame. Or your sdcard has issues. Make sure you shut down cleanly etc.
-
@BuZz yeah, shut down everytime, I've been so careful with everything. just formatted the SD Card and its pooped. A 64gb card now only has 56mb on it. Guess I'll need to purchase a new one, I assume there's no way to save it?
-
@AdamHurford you don't see the full space on a PC as it doesn't understand the RPI filesystem.
-
@BuZz Anyway to fix that? I've reformatted and tried to copy over the retropie image but there's not enough space. Apologies if I'm being dumb.
-
@AdamHurford how are you trying to copy the image. Did you check the install instructions on the wiki?
-
@BuZz Copying via drag and drop on my laptop
-
@AdamHurford you need to write it with disk imager application. Check the official install instructions on the wiki.
-
@BuZz ah crap yeah haha. I forgot about that!
You've been insanely helpful,thank you so much -
@BuZz one last question. My usb with all my roms etc on it, will I be able to just plug it in and let them all load on, or should I format that too and start completely fresh?
-
@AdamHurford assuming the USB stick is fine, you can use it to copy the roms back on as before.
-
@BuZz thank you ;)
