If a game doesn't load then you have the wrong romset or the game is not supported. In this case, all neogeo games are supported. You can't just dl any rom from any random website and expect it to work.

Goto the link @BuZz says and read up on romsets then look up the version of the romset to the emulator you want to use. There is nothing else to it.

I use FBAlpha (lr-fbalpha) for neogeo games and all other arcade games and all of them work. As some of the guys said make sure you have the right game rom for your emulator.
Check the wiki page to see what version each emulator has. Also make sure that the neogeo.zip file is inside the same folder as your neogeo roms.

@Paholainen The problem with THAT particular site is that it doesn't say what version of mame those roms are for. If you want to test each game out instead of finding a website with the proper romset, then that's your choice. You still haven't mentioned what emulator you're using. Neogeo games work fine for me on lr-fbalpha.

Also, it's best to follow video tutorials AFTER you've read the official retropie guides, in this case, the managing roms guide @buzz linked to. The romsets change often. My neogeo.zip's md5 doesn't match his and runs fine. I tested the version he got and it also works fine. Watched a bit of that video and some games won't load for him either. He has the same problem you have. You both have the wrong roms.

Nice, this guy made a video about how to have issues with fbalpha with the wrong romset, and people blindly follow it, obviously having issues too, and when someone explain what they must do, they don't care, they prefer following the shitty video.
At least the usual 3-4 people who ask this every week listen when we answer. This is getting worse...

@Darksavior I don´t get the runcommand box on launching a game. So I suppose it is the default emu whatever that might be. I checked the "managing roms" section. Trying to figure out how to use the rom identifier...

Downloaded 0.139 rom and tried on mame2010, but even that would not start?

                        Now it is working :) thanks for all the tips @BuZz @Darksavior @edm203 @FlyingTomahawk @Starcade2084 @rbaker

@Paholainen said in Neo Geo black screen:

I don´t get the runcommand box on launching a game

                          https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/runcommand

A black screen means that you do not have the correct romset for your emulator of choice. If you do not pair the emulator with the romset, the roms will not launch. If you are saying you have the correct romset and the correct emulator but still get the black screen, you do not actually have the correct romset and emulator.

So I suppose it is the default emu whatever that might be

This is the statement that leads me to believe this. You should read the guide I wrote here.
