FPS dips in secret of Mana on specific screens. What is causing this?
-
Hey guys,
I'm getting fps dips on specific screens in secret of Mana. Seems to be when there are menus with fancy scrolling backgrounds or specific towns in the second half of the game.
Easiest way to replicate this is on the loading screen, which is over a scrolling background.
I've got an overclocked pi and had found good settings that use that extra power to reduce input lag. I thought this was causing the fps problems in Secret of Mana, so I undid all of that, but it seems that I have the fps dips no matter what I do. I'm using snes9x 2010 on a raspberry pi 3.
Is it just a problem in emulation? Or is there a specific option I should be focusing on? I have only noticed it in this one game, but then again I haven't fired up every game in my library yet. I worry that it's indicative of a problem that'll be present in some of the other games I plan to play.

if this is the same slowdown your experiencing, it's as per the original game.

ah, okay. I'm not surprised the original game had slowdowns in areas with lots of sprites, but I'm also getting it (along with crackly audio) in the fullscreen menus. If that's in the original game, then my emulation is running fine and I'm happy, but the slowdown in the menus may be a different issue:
I have the original cart on hand but my snes is packed up somewhere, or else I'd check for myself :-/
